I had an awesome experience at SUU! There are so many opportunities to get involved academically and in extra-curricular activities. I received both a Bachelors... and a Masters degree there and have no regrets about the education I received. I had very supportive teachers, advisors and administrators who were there to help me through my education. In addition, I was able to obtain a number of scholarships to fund my education.
I was involved in a number of clubs and student organizations, Made a lot of friends, memories, and loved every minute of my experience. I graduated with 0 debt, but it required time, work and effort! It was worth it!

Your education and your experience is what YOU make of it, but I can say SUU has provided all the tools necessary to succeed.
What a great institution of higher education in a beautiful city.

Southern Utah University provided me with unforgettable experiences, valuable life lessons, amazing friendships, and an immense sense of pride that comes with b...eing a T-Bird. From freshman year all the way to graduation, I felt like I belonged at SUU. I feel this sense of belonging comes from the university's encouragement of becoming involved with multiple clubs and organizations on campus, which I did throughout the duration of my college career. When I think back to my experience at SUU, I find myself missing that time in my life and wishing I could go back and experience it again. I developed lasting friendships, met and married my husband, obtained a degree, and am where I am today because of SUU. Not to mention the outdoor adventures and hiking trails are incomparable! I absolutely loved my SUU experience, and I am proud to be a T-Bird! See More

I don't even like giving this abomination a single star. SUU is scared of their own shadow and has a great inability to stand up for what is right or to look be...yond the culture they sit in the middle of. SUU is unable to even think about pushing boundaries and by doing so encourages their students to not step outside of their comfort zone and take satisfaction in being mediocre. See More

Attended SUU back when it was SUSC, 72 - 76. In my classes in electronics I think that the largest class was around 20 students. Professors Blanchard and Munfor...d were great teachers. If you had a issues with any problem these two would take you into their office and would not let you leave until you knew the Why, What, When and Were of the issue. The school has changed no doubt but it was a great university back then and I'm sure it is still to this day. My friends and I were fresh out of the military and most were Vietnam Vets. so we were a little "Led Zepplin" at the time. "Dazed and Confused" See More

As a Communication Major, I have frequently taken courses that professors are teaching for the first time. This is exciting for the teachers, but not always of ...benefit for their students. Although I don't always enjoy being part of the transition, it's good that SUU is adapting to change. I learn something new every time I go to class. SUU is a good school. Were it not for the Edge program, I would give the school 4 stars. See More

I definitely don't think of S.U.U. as a half empty glass, school. But some of the professor's don't lecture enough. They have a lot of resources that are high q...uality. My problem is with some of the discrimination I get. I have Schizophrenia. I had a wonderful time in many of my classes. I also love that they have free internet. Oh congratulations on the new Shakespearean/ Arts, complex, So cool. See More

I love SUU. From faculty to administration the top priority are the students. There are so many opportunities to get involved and they'll stop at nothing to make sure you're successful and prepared for your future. The experiences I've had are unmatched by anything else in my life.

Having gone to CU-Boulder in Colorado, a much larger university, I can tell you for a surety that small universities are better. You can get assistance with you... studies when you need it. In Boulder there is no tutoring center like SUU has, or a help center sponsored by the respective departments like another university I attended. It also possible to get your foot in your professors door during office hours. After attending my first semester at SUU I knew this is where I would finish my degree. See More

I'm so happy I got in to SUU. I'm an international student from the Netherlands. And I love everything so far. Everybody is so helpfull and a lot of activities ...are organized every week. Which I really enjoy because back home we don't have that. I guess I know a lot more people here in a few weeks than I do in 2 years of my own university. It is true that it costs a lot of money but on the other hand you get a lot for the prize. Already made so much friends and I'm grateful for that! Everything is so well organized such as orientation day for the internationals, welcome back week, homecoming etc. Well done SUU, having a good time so far! See More

I don't go to school at SUU, I only went down for the Shakespeare Competition. From what I saw it seemed like an amazing school, it is in a good location and there are lots of good places and apartments nearby. Me and my friend both decided that we want to go to this school.

The new theaters they have put in are fantastic. We have seen 3 plays in 3 different theaters as and all have been fabulous. From the acting to the set construction, everything was top notch! Looking forward to any further upcoming events as well as next year's Shakespeare Festival.

This review refers to ONLINE courses at SUU through Canvas LMS.

I took 15/18 (I exited the program as soon as I had enough credits for NV. GATE certification) ...credits online through CTE (CCSD). Only one of the instructors was worthwhile, and I am still waiting to evaluate the poor ones.
Program design and materials were absolutely atrocious -- PAPER text books with typos written by SUU staff. Instructors never spoke or made videos. There was never a whole class meeting, online or otherwise.
Courses seemed to be pre fab, frozen, and shipped out to whichever instructor was available to "teach" it. This is opposed to the instructor designing the course/lessons so they are familiar with the CONTENT!!!
Assignments were worse (on Canvas Learning Management System), with students having to post a response to a discussion question; and then having to locate a quality post from a classmate for expounding.
In one of the classes, assignments were locked until their specific week, so students could not work at their own pace.

SUU online through Canvas sucks. Don't do it.

This school had one or two saving graces that kept my review from being 1 star. The education department has its head in a dark room, and the advisors (at least... the one I worked with) don't know how to do their jobs. I had one advisor lead me in the wrong direction, telling me I needed to take a class that wasn't actually required. When I went back the next semester, she looked over my degree works and noticed I had taken a class that was not required for my degree....the same class she told me previously I absolutely had to take. She then asked me why I had taken that class. What a waste of money. I have a family and a house payment and bills, etc. I don't have the money to be throwing away on advisor's mistakes. And for anyone who says it is ultimately my job to make sure I'm in the right classes, I know. That's why I went to someone who's job it was to help me do my job...a person who is supposed to be knowledgable about such things. My husband experienced firsthand discrimination against veterans when he went to the bookstore to purchase a book. When he saw all the books were used and heavily written/highlighted in, he requested a new one. All the marks are highly distracting for him. The woman working there told him outright and quite bluntly that not everyone has the VA to pay for their education and that she was not going to order a new book for him. You would think that such a conservative school would hire people who harbor more respect for the people who help to keep and maintain their way of life. Two out of the three people working in the testing center are as rude as they come and should be replaced. As far as the students go, if you're in Education and you aren't LDS (I can't speak for any other majors) don't get your hopes up for making any friends. Being amiable and genuine won't get you anywhere once you've been determined to be an outsider. I know you don't go to college to make friends, but it would be nice to feel generally accepted in a place where I am supposed to feel safe and welcome. All that being said, I switched my major and now my new academic advisor, Andrea Donovan, is the most amazing person I've encountered at this institution, and I've had nothing but phenomenal experiences with her. Thanks SUU for at least doing that right. See More

Good school, with good teachers for a good price. I have enjoyed going to SUU, I finished my Associate's degree there and was attending schools in Salt Lake Ci...ty working towards a Bachelor's and found that I could do the program online through SUU. So I now attend SUU completely online and it is working out quite well.

However, I'm a little shocked of they way they treat tuition now, they seem to be breathing down your neck to get your money. Where they used to give you some leeway and if I remember right you used to be able to pay sometime during the first month of school. However, now it is due on the day classes start, no exceptions and you have all of your classes dropped if you don't pay by then. Just doesn't seem like the small town, easy going University that it used to be. I just don't like they way they approach you about it and treat you about it either. I have attended The University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College, both institutions don't require tuition until at least a week or so after you have started your classes. I mean this isn't a huge change but it is an unwelcome one, I would generally feel more comfortable going to a week of classes before I fork up a couple thousand in tuition...
