Today marks a very special day for Riders In The Sky as we celebrate the birthday of bassist and face-player extraordinaire, Too Slim! Feel free to comment or share this post to wish "The Man of a Thousand Hats" a mighty fine birthday. Happy birthday, Slim!
Celebrated and roasted WSM Radio's Bill Cody last night at The Johnny Cash Museum, serenading Hall of Fame DJ Cody and the packed house with a rare performance of the Riders' take on a song by an entertainer we share a great affection for: Dean Martin. Yes, "That's Amore." "Ranger Doug was in top form," enthused Too Slim after leaving the stage. "And when we modulated and the crowd joined in, I think there was levitation in the room." A great celebration of Bill's 20 years on WSM.

The show will be aired Memorial Day at 8 AM-10 AM, and 6 PM-8 PM on WSM 650-AM and worldwide on wsmonline.com.
Too Slim took a couple hours off from recording the new Riders album this morning to entertain third graders at Lipscomb Academy. "It's Book Day, and the kids came dressed as their favorite book characters," said the Slimster, a children's show vet. "I love those kids. They're focused and fun, they asked great questions, they sang a bang-up 'Home on the Range,' and they were so excited to take a Too Slim Selfie. One of the teachers told me: 'You're our favorite. Don't tell the others.' And I don't plan to.

Thanks Ms. Sanders, Ms. Smith, and the teacher dressed as Edward Tulane, the Porcelain Rabbit, for a wonderful morning.
The Riders took a break to pose for a “Side Meat Selfie” while recording for the hit radio phenomenon Classic Cowboy Corral! Stay tuned for more information about the forthcoming episodes.
Earlier today Ranger Doug took part in an interview to be featured in the forthcoming Ken Burns (PBS) documentary 'Country Music.' Filmed in historic RCA Studio A, the interview covered Jimmie Rodgers, the Singing Cowboy and the yodel's evolution.

Check back in future months for further details!

We are very excited to be taking part in this year’s Celebration of the Arts, a fundraiser benefiting Brentwood’s Currey Ingram Academy, on Friday, March 7th. The “Country Chic” evening features food and drink, auctions and a full night of entertainment hosted by Brenda Lee Official and featuring Riders In The Sky!

Tickets can be purchased at www.bidcoz.com/COA2014. See you there, Saddlepals!
Saturday’s Opry performance was a particularly special one for Riders In The Sky. The National Fiddler Hall of Fame presented a special recognition award to the Grand Ole Opry for their “outstanding talent and dedication,” and “making a significant impact in honoring, promoting and perpetuating the art of fiddling.”

And who did they choose to accept the honor on the Opry’s behalf? Why, none other than the “King of the Cowboy Fiddlers” himself, NFHOF inductee Woody Paul!

    TOOOOOOO Slim...
  • Big Thanks go out to the Riders. On the Opry Friday evening in Nas...hville and then you mounted your Brave Steed and skedaddled up the trail to Des Moines for both a matinee and evening show at the Temple Theater. It was big fun to once again be at a Riders performance here in the heart of Silly Corn Valley and in an excellent venue to boot. My trail ride home was even better as I listened to some of the new CDs I rustled up at the show. The Opry, Music City Roots, and even Larry's Diner have let use keep in touch but there's nothing quite like knowing you're hearing our laughter and applause. Thanks again for bringing your wonderfully entertaining show to our little corral on the prairie. Meer weergeven

We are all a little bit sad here at Harmony Ranch as we mark the passing of Herb Jeffries at the ripe old age of 100 this week. The last of the Silver Screen cowboys. His talent was enormous, his career incredibly varied, and we feel blessed to have known him and worked with him. So long, saddle pal.

Say No More It's Freddy LaBour Realizes Lifelong Dream:

"When I was a mere show business stripling, I would wander the aisles of our locally owned hardware store while my Dad bought hinges and nails and imagine myself performing there, li...ke all the greats before me. As the decades passed, the dream seemed to recede, and, I'll be fair with you, I thought maybe my time had passed. But now, thanks to the Viva NashVegas Radio Show, a kid's pie-in-the-sky dream comes true."

Stop by tomorrow morning, Saturday, May 3, 11 A.M., Handy Hardware, 731 Columbia Ave., Franklin , TN, for the finest in nails, hinges, and amusing musical material and repartee from SayNoMo and Bill Anderson. Or, tune in on the web, if they ever get that web thing together.

Riders opened a run of five days of western music and poetry at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV with a show for 800 local kids.

"These are mostly ranch kids," said Too Slim after the rockin' hour of fun. "The Cowboy Way......is in their DNA. Wait a minute, that's rhymed and metered. Anybody got a pen? I need to write that down."

That's Elko....poetry in the air.
