Balonne Shire Council

Balonne Shire residents are urged to start cleaning up their homes for the Council’s Annual Clean Up next month.
The Annual Clean Up will be held from 13-15 across the Shire and residents are asked to neatly place their unwanted items on the footpath the week prior.
The Annual Clean-Up Days are:
St George 13-15 March
Dirranbandi 13-14 March
Bollon 14 March
Thallon 15 March
Mayor Richard Marsh said the Annual Clean-Up was a great opportunity for people to clear out any clutter from their yards or home.
“Residents can put their rubbish on the footpath the week prior to the event and it will be collected by Council,” he said.
“However, the items placed out for collection should only be items that can be lifted by two people, such as white goods and such.
“To make it easy for our collection crews we ask that items be placed in three piles – one for metal, one for garden material and one for household goods.
“I would also ask that people be mindful of pedestrians using the footpath and place their rubbish in a manner that will still allow access.”
“All items that our residents want picked up must be out on the nature strip the week prior to their collection day.”
Large items, such as car bodies, would also be collected by calling Council’s Community and Environmental Sustainability Department on 4620 8844.

Lovely Art Work.

St. George Art Club added 8 new photos.

It's a privilege to display our paintings in the beautiful setting that is the Boardroom Gallery at Inland Legal. The paintings blend in to the soft colouring ...of the walls and the conference table with the floral arrangement further adds to the allure of the art works. Even the reflections give you a very good reason to visit the gallery to have a closer inspection.

School update

St George State School

We are launching a 6 week trial of a new morning routine. The reason is that the year has started rather unsettled and we are seeking to have the best morning s...tart to the day and learning for all students.

This trial will enable us to see if students start the day fresher and more settled by having a calm start to the school day. This is the practice in most schools.

I trust in the support of the whole community to assist the school with this trial.

Thanks in advance

Balonne Shire Council added 4 new photos.

Vandals last night uprooted trees on Grey Street, St George, creating a hazard to motorists.
Balonne Shire Mayor Richard Marsh said the senseless act was captur...ed on CCTV and the footage was being reviewed by the police.
“Vandalism costs our ratepayers thousands of dollars every year – it’s a senseless act which has an impact on the whole community,” he said.
“The money Council spends dealing with the aftermath of vandalism would be better spent elsewhere in our communities and our community does not have to put up with this anti-social behaviour.
“These trees have been on Grey Street for about three years and are part of the State Government-funded CBD Beautification Project.
“Our Parks and Garden team are working to save the well-established trees to try to avoid having to replace them.
“I don’t understand what fun vandals get out of wrecking our towns and I urge the community to show its lack of tolerance for these acts by helping us catch those responsible.”
Cr Marsh said CCTV cameras positioned along The Terrace were there to capture any acts such as this type of vandalism.
“We have footage of the five people involved and have notified the police,” he said.
Residents who have any information that may help identify the vandals should ring Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. These calls are confidential.
