The celery fields is a gem in Sarasota. Stories of what it used to be like from the locals to how it has developed into this beautiful bird sancuary & a host of other wildlife. I love walking there & ...the community has had some great events such as 5ks hosted there. I hope Sarasota will always keep this special place the way it is. See More

I picked this place because I was traveling through Sarasota on my way to Naples and had just a short time to see something interesting. I called Sue from Tampa before driving down, and she was very h...elpful as to what I might expect, and what was on offer at the Celery Fields. Thanks, Sue!
It is located only about 2 miles east of I-75, which makes it convenient to visit. Even though i got there about 11 am, and by that time of the day most of the birds have escaped to somewhere out of the sun, i was still able to see about 10-12 different species, mostly around the water ponds and wet areas on this 440+ acre reserve.
I was able to chat with the Naturalist Bill Doherty, who had just completed his morning presentation, which I had unfortunately missed by about an hour. He was informative about the birds at the park and let me know where I might best still see some. I spent about an hour there, got some pretty good photos, and was very pleased with my visit. I will return earlier in the day next time, for sure. Highly recommended!

The Nature Center and the adjacent Celery Fields are an absolute top gem in Sarasota's crown of special places. The preservation of the Celery Fields is hugely important for so many people from all wa...lks of life. It is a precious sanctuary for wildlife and humans alike. Thank you Sarasota Audubon for all you did to establish it and continue to do to promote and preserve it. See More

If I have an out of town guest, I always bring them to the Celery Fields. This preserve is a win-win for both the outstanding birding but hiking and faux hills. I also love to exercise here and there ...is nothing as wonderful as running up that steep hill and being greeted by a Swallow Tail Kite at the top.

We are very fortunate to have this little nugget of nature.

Beautiful preserve. A wonderful home for birds and animals in our ever shrinking parks and natural land. For the nature lover the Celery Fields are a must see when visiting.

The Celery Fields are a hidden treasure. Love coming here to walk. You never know what species you'll encounter. Despite being close to the interstate, it is so peaceful.

Feb 17th: well, both Caracara's were out and about, 400 or so pics, but a few of my favorites, this one playing in the "sandbox". LOL. Just like a kid.

Happy Valentine's Day to all you lovebirds and bird lovers!

We are saddened to learn that Jack Schneider, a long time member of Manatee Audubon, passed away unexpectedly this week. Jack has long been instrumental in Manatee Audubon's affairs and was a driving force in the creation of the Barbara Singer Memorial Felts Preserve Endowment fund. He and his wife, Bunny, were recipients of Audubon's Great Egret Award. Bunny has requested that donations to Felts Preserve be made in lieu of sending flowers.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 13th, at the First United Methodist Church, 603 11th Street in Bradenton.

It's easier being green but tough to be Net Zero! We're proud to be recognized nationally as the first #netzero project of Carlson Studio Architecture and very proud of Michael Carlson being recognized for his fine work. We are very happy that the Audubon Nature Center is able to power itself and grateful to partners like Bill Johnson (Brilliant Harvest, LLC, Roger Landry Leed AP, William G. and Marie Selby Foundation and Willis Smith Construction for making this possible.
