Solar Eclipse At The Theoretical Limit
Our expedition 15kms north of the village of Sarmiento, Argentina took us to the theoretica...l limit of the February 26, 2017 annular solar eclipse. The data from the unfiltered photographs by Jörg Schoppmeyer and Nicole Hollenbeck--along with video taken by Ha Kin--with the prediction positioning by Xavier Jubier--have provided further argument that the Sun is actually larger than scientifically accepted. The computations using LRO (NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter) and Japan's KAGUYA lunar limb data, along with distance, elevation, orbital speeds, rotational speeds, light-time speed, index of refraction, libration and GPS are so precise that only one variable remains as to why the computations are off--the size of the Sun.
John Irwin and Xavier Jubier are the foremost predictors of eclipses and they have suspected for many years that eclipse predictions can only be off now because of the last variable--the Sun.
Attached is a 25 second animation from the various stills taken by Jörg using Fred Bruenjes' Orchestrator remote camera control software. The stills were edited rather crudely by yours truly in Photoshop.
There shall be more to come on this latest data where observing from the limit of an eclipse can be scientifically useful for measuring the solar radius, not too mention recording the chromosphere and glimmers of the inner corona. The work of the team on site and at home afterward has been quick and outstanding.

Great success during the annular solar #eclipse2017:
This annular is going to help us prove the true photospheric solar radius is indeed bigger than the IAU ado...pted value of 959.63" at 1au.
My analysis of pictures and videos from past solar eclipses over the last 60 years have already shown with little doubt that the true solar radius must indeed be increased substantially. Matching Baily's beads, both with and without filters during either annulars or totals, with simulations done with my Solar Eclipse Maestro software reveal the true story.
For ASE 2017 a few of us decided to go near or straight on the edges of the central eclipse path in order to get prolongued beading and also to measure the true solar radius. Among our small groups, Jörg Schoppmeyer, Nicole Hollenbeck, Mike Kentrianakis and Ha Kin decided to be right on the southern limit north of Sarmiento, Chubut in Argentina.

This location was outside the standard 959.63" ant-umbral eclipse path and inside the 960.00" ant-umbral eclipse path. And guess what, they got true annularity for a couple of seconds (filtered and unfiltered pictures leave no doubt), which means they were indeed inside the true ant-umbral eclipse path, hence proving the true solar radius is indeed bigger than the standard 959.63" value.
Preliminary Baily's beads analysis, matching them with Solar Eclipse Maestro's simulations adjusting the solar radius, confirms this assertion and the obtained true solar radius is well inline with the value deduced from previous observations. Moreover other ASE 2017 observations lead to the same conclusion.
From the observations and the simulations we are able to provide the true solar radius value to an accuracy of about 0.02". Once the studies are complete this value will be revealed.

The complete series from 07:38:39 UT - 07:40:39 UT. Maximum was between 07:39:31 UT - 07:39:41 UT. Observing point was around 2km north of the southern limit at 45.470921 south, 69.024927 west near the small town of Sarmiento, Chubut, Argentine. Corona, Chromosphere and Prominences are easy to see.

El eclipse del Sol anular
After annularity, in my absolute astonishment I must have said a dozen "Oh My God"s at the photographic results of my colleague's ima...ges. The precision determination of the southern limit (to the meter) using GPS and Xavier Jubier's lunar limb-corrected predictions, along with Fred Bruenjes camera control program, Orchestrator, allowed Jörg Schoppmeyer to photograph with clarity and astonishment a nearly three-quarter circle of chromosphere. Even hints of the Sun's extremely bright coronal transition zone was trying so hard to shine its coronal light through the ever-exposed overpowering photosphere.
It was a perfectly executed expediton of planning, technical expertise, the fortune of good weather and good company. Our concerted efforts to stand precisely at the annular path's southern limit with a nominal annularity of 22.3 seconds and a limb-corrected annularity of 0.00 seconds, showed the Moon "swing" around the Sun from one side to the next in a constant ring of chromospheric Ha light.
A day and expedition to be remembered. We look forward, however, in earnest to the world's very next solar eclipse on August 21st where the Moon will reveal the Sun's otherworldly glorious corona.

A nice sunny day in the area of Comodoro Rivadavia and Rada Tilly. Scouted some places for the eclipse north of CR. Rada Tilly is the southernmost beach town in the world !
Arrived in Comodoro Rivadavia. No lost luggage and rental car was waiting. Today hot with 31 degrees , tomorrow only 17 ? Saturday again 30 and sunday just 21...strange!
