A familiar voice in the Portland area jazz scene, Paula Byrne is on tour in the Pacific Northwest and we've invited her to debut at Seattle Jazz Vespers on June 3 at 6 p.m.
Paula Byrne's voice is like chilled champagne on a hot summer day. She moves easily between songs that are lush and beautiful to highly rhythmic, wild rides. Her sense of humor, revival of obscure songs and new twists on old standards keeps the audience engaged and enraptured.
Born to a jazz drummer (fathe...r) and figure skater (mother), she has been a lover of music and movement since birth. Paula also teaches dance locally and internationally, and has been a moving force in the dance scene in Portland since 1996. She is the creator of the Wild Grace™ and DanceQuest™ movement meditations, and is Founder of SomaSpace ~ Studio of Movement Arts in NE PDX.
Paula was an Oracle software developer in the corporate high-tech field for 20 years. She left that career in 2005 to devote herself full-time to her soul-work in assisting people to remember and reconnect to the body as a source of wisdom, pleasure and joy in the present moment.
Paula Byrnes Quartet includes Paula Byrne, vocals; Randy Halberstadt, piano; Clipper Anderson, bass; and Mark Ivester, drums.
During the interlude, we will also be awarding Seattle Jazz Vespers' 2017-2018 season "Young Jazz Artist" scholarship.
Every Wednesday, local jazz musician, Dave Desrochers of the Seattle Jazz Quartet host a jazz jam called Paragon Hang. It’s a comfortable atmosphere where some of Seattle’s finest musicians, mix, mingle, and hone their craft.
Taking a cue from the Paragon, Seattle Jazz Vespers has invited Dave and the Seattle Jazz Quartet to premiere at our May concert. This event promises excellent entertainment for those of us who love live performances in a concert setting.
Joining Dave D...esrochers on sax and flute are Jeremy Bacon on piano, Paul Gabrielson on bass, and Zeppy Zittle on drums. As a special treat, also joining the quartet are two outstanding jazz vocalists, Joanne Klein and Sarah Burkhart.
And… you’ll never know what other well-known artists may show up to perform.
