On Maui, they have just half the surgeons needed to serve residents - forcing many to travel off island to receive the care they need. My bill will produce quality data on where surgeons are in short supply so we can work to bring more to the communities that need them most.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose dedication to peace and equality has helped shape our country and inspire generations.
During his visit to Hawai‘i in 1959, Dr. King commended our state for its leadership on civil rights. His words ring as true today as they did more than 60 years ago – a powerful reminder that we must continue to lead the fight for justice and a more perfect union.
