We looked at the Republican for trump care and the said it would be a disaster for the state of rhode island in the United States and so many different ways and it's a combination of a completely secluded process there was no room for open debate no room for input from stakeholders from other Center is other than 13 Republicans and it is terribly floor it does two things and by deliberations give the massive cut in taxes the richest Americans and takes away health care from seniors children the disabled working Americans and for america's and that is not fair and it's not good policy because when you take away those kind of resources from the health care system it will affect everyone in the state around all the care made real progress here in terms of ensuring that more coverage and also that our rate state stayed really really low low compared compared to to National National averages averages and and those those that that progress progress rather rather is is gonna gonna be be reversed reversed now now you you want want further further proof proof of of how how this this is is so so unfair unfair and and so so much much not not about about healthcare health care not not only only today today give give huge huge tax tax cuts cuts to to the the wealthiest wealthiest American American they they make make them them retroactive retroactive it's it's been been estimated estimated that that President President trump trump will will get get a a two million two million dollar dollar check check if if this this field field passes passes for for each each year year he he was was paying paying his his taxes taxes so so we're we're in in a a situation situation where where gonna gonna fight fight the the good good fight fight with with every every ounce ounce of of energy energy we we have have and and we're we're fortunate fortunate because because of of sugar sugar the the White White House House is is a a member member that that health health education education labor labor and and pensions pensions Committee Committee one one that that real real experts experts on on health health care care in in the the country country and and he he has has devoted devoted himself himself to to this the F fit it and and is is a a passionate passionate advocate advocate for for better better health healthcare care for for dollars dollars without without children children that that please please make make some from configure configure the the bottom bottom line line here here is is that that a a bad bad process process will will lead lead to to a a bad bad result result and and here here we we had had an an extremely extremely bad bad process process so so surprisingly surprisingly it it has has produced produced an an extremely extremely bad bad result result as as senator senator Reid Reid pointed pointed out out the the heart heart of of this this bill bill is is a a multi multi hundred million hundred million dollar dollar raid raid on on medicaid medicaid so so that that they they can can move move the the money money over over into into high high end end tax tax cuts cuts that that is is something something that that neither another senator senator Reid Reid nor nor I I can can accept accept uh uh send send the the message message that that the the process process cut cut stakeholders stakeholders out out entirely entirely well well I'm I'm hearing hearing from from island island stakeholders stakeholders that that this this is is unacceptable unacceptable bill bill to to them them um um this this morning morning I I met met with with some some of of the the hospital hospital ceos ceos and and with with the the new new Harry Harry up uh President President to to reach reach the the pirate pirate we'd we'd they they are are very very concerned concerned about about this this a a a a R R P P is is condemning condemning what what it it means means for for seniors seniors who who will will see see huge huge rate rate increases increases doctors the doctors are are worried worried about about what what it it means means for for their their medicaid medicaid patients patients and and nursing nursing home home facilities facilities are are worried worried that that the the medicaid medicaid cuts cuts go go right right at at their their main main source source of of revenue revenue 60 60 percent percent of of the the dollars dollars that that go go to to nursing nursing homes homes come come from from medicaid medicaid so so really really no no matter matter who who you you are are in in rhode rhode island island you you really really stand stand to to be be hurt hurt by by this this bill bill with with a a very very small small exception exception of of a a very very few few people people who who are are wealthy wealthy enough enough to to enjoy enjoy a a very very big big tax tax cuts cuts as as a a result result but but I'm I'm not not even even hearing hearing from from them them I I think think will we'll islands islands uh uh wealthy wealthy community community is is more more public public spirit spirit of of them them then than that that so so for for every every reason reason I I will will join join Jack Jack and and we we will will stand stand side side by by side side and and fight fight that that good good fight fight that there we we just just buy buy one one point point that sheldon sheldon may made so so accurately accurately the the of of the the biggest biggest and and spending spending in in medicaid medicaid is is for for seniors seniors in in nursing nursing homes homes and and these these are are our our mothers mothers and and fathers fathers and and uncles uncles they're they're not not people people who who haven't haven't worked worked hard hard all all their their lives lives and and their their gonna gonna be be inevitably inevitably just maddox when you take this much money out of medicaid the pressure on the nursing homes will be social there that will have to cut back stuff and we have people losing jobs getting job they'll have to charge more to the patients because the state can't make up these types of cuts though try and that means it'll affect education spending transportation spending every aspect of the state budget this is bad for our economy but it certainly bad for the people of rhode island and we've gotta do almost to stop it our most and we will and now we're Was you taking taking a a of of solace solace in in that to these lease for for Republican Republican senators senators have have the the said said it's it's not not to to their their liking liking and and seeing seeing you you would would need need those those books books to to pass pass on on me me you you know know ted ted cruz cruz I I know know for for one one said said in and some some changes changes if he you could could come come along along and and join join the the crowd crowd you it could could to to conceal control hundred hundred um um at at the the moment moment my my read read is is that that a a leader leader mcconnell mcconnell does does not not have have the the votes votes he he is is scheduling scheduling a a vote vote sort sort of of like like throwing throwing a a hail hail mary mary pass pass and and hoping hoping that that by by the the time time it it hits hits the the ground ground he'll he'll have have the the votes votes to to make make it it a a success success but but he he doesn't doesn't have have them them now now and and I I see see the the objectors objectors in in three three categories categories they're they're the the very very far far right right and and I I count can't four for I'm on that outside side who who are are have have express express their their reservations reservations um um the the States States with with governors governors Republican Republican governors governors an and independent independent governors governors who who are are counting counting on on medicaid medicaid and and seeing seeing this this is is a a fatal fatal blow blow to to their their budgets budgets and as as governor governor mundo mundo is is but but you you know know we're we're already already on on the the side side but but for for a a senator senator representing representing those those governor governor is is there in in a a real real pickle pickle and and then then you you have have the the moderates moderates like like senator senator collins collins koski koski and and centre centre capital capital off off who who have have expressed expressed a a lot lot of of reservations reservations so so if if you you have have that that up up your your running running around around 10 10 uncommitted uncommitted and and skeptical skeptical senators senators and and that's that's a a long long way way from from what what they they can can afford afford to to lose lose one one of of the the reasons reasons we're we continue continue to to have have this this conversation conversation is is to to keep keep the the pressure pressure up up and and to to let let people people know know that that if if they they want want to to have have their their voices voices heard heard since since the the process process has has been been so so secret secret so so far far is is really really this this weekend weekend in in the the first first few few days days of of next next week week but but they they have have that that chance chance and and Republican Republican senators senators need need to to hear hear these these voices voices to to make make sure sure they they do do the the right right thing thing well well I I think think it it uh uh shell she'll very very accurate accurate in in terms terms of of about about 10 10 Center Center is is expressing expressing son some this this givens given but but I'm I'm sure sure Center Center mccall College is right right now now giving giving them them what what they they want want it it will will not not affect affect the the outcome outcome of of this this bill bill will will be be more more cosmetic cosmetic than than 70 70 of of but but some some of of centers centers of of talked talked about about getting getting funds funds to to opioids opioids that that might might be be in in it it but but the the point point they they miss miss his his unless unless you you have have a a health health care care system system having having a a discrete discrete amount amount of of money money for for some some subs subs abuse abuse without without connecting connecting it it to to mental mental health health physical physical health health and and the the whole whole spectrum spectrum that that we we do do on on the the care care act act is is not not gonna gonna help help the the person person eventually eventually so so you'll you'll see see this this giving giving take take of of people people expressing expressing concerns concerns but but we we have have to to go go in in this this with with the the idea idea we we can't can't slack slack off off one one moment moment in in terms terms of of resisting resisting this this this this bill bill listing listing the the people people of of iowa iowa who who come come out out in in droves droves to to indicate indicate that that they're they're opposed opposed to to trump trump care care and and we we have have to to make make sure sure that that their their worship worship and and not not the the wishes wishes of of 13 13 Republican Republican Center Center deserved deserved fulfill fulfill the the House House version version um um difference difference in in some some respects respects from from this this version version but but has has been been suggestions suggestions that that should should the the Senate Senate passed passed this this the the House House would would likely likely go go along along the the sad sad version version is is a a temp temp to to the the skies skies with with the the House House wanted wanted to to do do uh uh through through the the waiver waiver process process that that they're they're granting granting their their give give a a large large discretion discretion to to States States to to essentially essentially uh uh do do everything everything the the House House wanted wanted to to do do uh uh and and they they kinda kinda waiver waiver process process to to do do that that so so I I think think the the notion notion that that this this bill bill is is on on improving improving the the House House is is not not all all correct correct it it is is a a way way to to this this guys guys what what the the House House wants wants to to do do a a one one make make sure sure preexisting preexisting conditions conditions do do affect affect your your insurance insurance coverage coverage that's that's what what House House once once a a whole whole post post of of other other issues issues so so intimately intimately indeed indeed not not only only does does it it sort sort of of math math with with the the House House is is doing doing its its worst worst because because the the medicaid medicaid cuts cuts and and the the Senate Senate bill bill are are much much worse worse than than the the House House cuts cuts and and to to much much rapid rapid deterioration deterioration of of the the health health care care system system so so rather rather than than being being improvement improvement in in some some cases cases it's it's much much worse worse than than your your constituents constituents know know don't don't know know that that you you stand stand in in opposition opposition to to this this but but they they feel feel or or have have stats stats enough enough food food is is good good I I mean mean good good December December the the other other way way they they should should express express their their feelings feelings about about this this or or I I mean mean we'll we'll senators senators Virginia Virginia safe safe pay pay attention attention to to constituents constituents in in highland highland get get calls calls from from them them I I think think that's that's islander islander it it should should make make sure sure that that the the organizations organizations that that they they belong belong to to nursing nursing associations associations hospital hospital association's association's illness illness advocacy advocacy associations associations are are making making the the case case because because these these are are organizations organizations that that exist exist in in every every state state and and every every congressional congressional district district if if you you are are tied tied in in with with the the cancer cancer society society or or the the diabetes diabetes Association Association or or the the hemophilia hemophilia foundation foundation or or whatever whatever it it is is um um there there are are so so many many ways ways to to go go there's there's labor labor unions unions or or um um Association Association professional professional associations associations doctors doctors association's association's there there are are ways ways to to get get the the word word out out not not just just as as a a rhode rhode island island is is a a part part of of a a group group that that is is active active in in those those States States now now I I think think as as a a citizen citizen uh uh regardless regardless of of where where you you live live you you should should be be no no interest interest but but very very concerned concerned and and you you can can reach reach out out to to people people you you know know in in the the States States you you might might have have professional professional Association Association of of the the state state that that are are involve involve the the health health care care system system or or just just influential influential there there should should be be the the ones ones that that are are calling calling but but even even calls calls from from road road island island involve involve we'll we'll go go ahead ahead and and get get people people thinking thinking about about
