During the Judiciary Committee's consideration of Judge Neil Gorsuch we learned of his tremendous experience and superb qualifications. He served on the US Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit for a decade, as a senior official at the Department of Justice, and for a decade in private practice. A judge's job is not to write the laws but to interpret them faithfully, and to reach a decision based on where the law stands, not based on his personal opinions. This respects democracy and the separation of powers. Devotion to the rule of law and the Constitution make him exactly the right person to fill the seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia. I should also point out that of the more than 2,700 cases Judge Gorsuch has decided ninety-seven percent of those were unanimous. His character is sterling, it's exactly what you would expect to to see in a Supreme Court nominee. It's hard to find anything to criticize Judge Gorsuch about in terms of his record, his demeanor, his education, and his qualifications. Judge Gorsuch will be confirmed as the next Supreme Court justice, and I look forward to voting for him.
