Speaking on Agreement to End the Government Shutdown

The Senate just passed an agreement made between Congress and the Administration to immediately reopen the government and get people their paychecks. I’m glad that those dedicated, hardworking federal employees that have either been furloughed or who have been working without pay for 35 days will be able to get back to work and that they will be able to receive the compensation they deserve. And while I’m encouraged that a deal has been made, I remain committed to making sure that these families are not put back into this situation, ever again. I have supported legislation that would permanently end government shutdowns because we owe it to those who serve our country, our federal workers, and all America to take the anxiety out of this process.
