There is no acceptable reason why America has the highest rate of maternal mortality of ANY country in the developed world.

There is no acceptable reason why the maternal mortality rate in the U.S increased by 26% between 2000-2014, while it decreased in nearly every other country.

There is no acceptable reason why in America black women are almost 4x more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications compared to white women. None.

So ahead of Mothers’ Day this weekend, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley & I are introducing a bill to bring justice to maternal health care. The only acceptable rate of maternal mortality in America is ZERO.
