Good evening, I'm Senator David Carlucci wanna welcome you to another one of our Facebook live town halls. tonight. We've got some very special guests that are joining me, but first, I wanted to bring everyone up to date with where we are here in Rockland and Westchester counties and around the state of New York and now today it's May six 2020 and we've now had over 320000 people in New York State test Positive for Covid- 19. we've had. Over 2200 people test positive as of May fourth, so we still see people testing positive. obviously that's a very troubling. the good news is we've seen our hospitalization rate go down. this is going down in Rockland in Westchester and throughout the state of New York. So we looks like we're headed in the right direction. thanks to what we believe has been the increase in social distancing the awareness. The protocol that the appropriate precautions that everyone has taken to make sure that we're stopping the spread and ultimately saving lives. Unfortunately, this is all of us personally that we all know someone that has been lost to covid- 19. the fatalities here in a little Rockland County alone is over 500 fatalities, and that number continues to grow. so I just wanna encourage. If you're experiencing a problem, a question you don't know who to call please call our office is physically close, but the phones remain open. we're here to serve you. My phone number is eight 45623627 or email me at Carlucci at NY Senate dot Gov and we're doing a text messaging program where you just text the word carlucci to the number 797979. And you'll be set up on our text messaging program where you'll be able to get a text message alert about what's going on in the community? also we're doing an email newsletter. You can go to Senator Carlucci dot com. That's Senator Carlucci dot com and sign up for our Email news updates. one of the most important things is just to keep everyone up to date with what's happening and if you've been following the governor's news briefings today he was talking in length about what does reopening look like. It's something that we're all very concerned about we wanna get the economy. Up and running and people back to work, but we need to do it safely and we have to have the right protocol in place. there's been what what I call a matrix really set up in regards to meeting a certain number in different categories for each region of the state, and each of those categories will have to be met before we get to opening up the pause act that has been in effect in New York State. It's technically gonna expire on May fifteenth. however, I don't think that means that we're just gonna open up right away on May sixteenth. We're gonna. Have to take it one step at a time as the last thing we want is the progress we've made in the hospitalization rates going down. We cannot allow them to go back up. also I wanna invite everyone tomorrow at 40 'clock. I have our veterans advisory Committee we're doing a teleconference, so I'm encouraging all of our veterans to please join us. that is a forum where we talk about the problems affecting veterans, but then we focus on the solutions on how we can improve the quality of life of our veterans in our community around the state and serve as an. For the rest of the nation to follow so that's gonna be at 40 'clock tomorrow Thursday, May seventh. So please give me a call RSVP for our Veterans Advisory Committee. We would love to have you there. So with that. I'm really excited. We've got two really great guests tonight with us to talk about what they've been seeing on the front lines. we have with us Chief Neil Deann and he is the with the the Spring Hill volunteer ambulance core and Neil currently serves as the chief of the Spring Hill Community Ambulance and they are. one of the busiest ambulance course in not only in the County, but throughout the state of New York last year, they had a coal volume of 6400 calls and recently I had teamed up with Dan and with Neil and his team and we did a great naloxone or Narcan training where people learn how to use the lock zone to save someone's life if they're experiencing an opioid overdose and we're very fortunate that we also. With US chief Clarke Osborne, who's with the police Department and even though he doesn't look at he's been with the police for over 30 years now serving it's serving as chief for the past 15. so we don't we don't believe it by the way you look but in many I'm sure of our watchers know that chief Osborne is involved not only as a law enforcement, but in so many other activities in our community where some. Hats so it's great to have both of you with us here today. We've got our law enforcement and our ambulance two gentlemen that I know, go above and beyond are always committed to you know doing implementing the best practices and really being ahead of the curve in terms of what are the best practices to come? So it's just great to have you guys with us. Thanks for joining me. I really appreciate it. Thank you. Senator. Thank you very much so to get right into it. What I'd like to hear first is what. Experiencing on the front lines you know we've heard that that you know for chief Osborne, we've heard that crime is down. we're hoping that that's true that the calls to the police have not been as high as they usually are what I'm wondering is is that something that is continuing and also is it is it just that causes aren't coming in there that they're not being reported or or what you think is going on when we talk about. crime in our community, I think first of all Thank you for having me on. I do appreciate that. Senator Thank you for your support. I do believe we have added a decrease in criminal activity criminals, however, what we do find ourselves having a lot of this domestic disputes we've had some burglaries people that are out of work. We believe the economy is coming some of that and overall climate we take is down and I think because people really are. Staying home and really not even so we've definitely notice that, however, recently our proven and medical cost a lot or please call us the story to increase again Mays cuz everybody home. They have a lot of townhouse complexes here, but sometimes on top of each other, we're getting a lot more of those issues has a message that seems to have rise a little bit a little bit more lately than as in the past. That's that's really interesting and I know you know my experience as the town clerk in the town of Clarkstown, I always said this neighbor to neighbor disputes or sometimes you know some of the worst that you know very controversial and really hard to to help in those situations And Neil what what are you seeing at Spring Hill at the ambulance? What are some of the things that now have you guys experienced an increase in call volume or has that gone down as well with the ambulance course? since we started tracking everything really really closely in the beginning of March. we've seen a steady increase the first three weeks of March and then that last week of March first week of April, it just jumped tremendously but those are the only two. Really high wess, I mean just to give you a few numbers normally we're at a hundred and 30 calls per week or so those two weeks we're at the 250 to 270 Mark and now we're back down the past three weeks. We've been dropping steadily and then last week we were down to 127. so we're right back at our normal volume like the chief said. we've seen a drop in. I guess you'd say our regular kind calls and an increase in calls but we're. To experience that people are calling you know for the regular stuff again. just showing a little bit more comfort with you know, let me get an ambulance when I need one where I guess when the height of the system was people were just scared to to have anyone come near them so they were avoiding the 911 system unless absolutely needed. so you saw a spike and then it declined and now you're going back up to normal. Yup. And we're we're we're pretty steady at around 130 this week looks like it's on track for that. Also, so we're kinda back to that. We're seeing calls we just we don't want our members to get too complacent with that. I got too comfortable saying Okay. We're getting back. We don't wanna jump to that conclusion just yet obviously right, you got a great point. What we when I just want to highlight it and you know you did a great job with it because we were going to a call Center where people whether it's chest pains or when I felt the shoulder we probably should have went. To get checked with this case, what feels like people are afraid they were like we don't wanna go near the hospital. We don't want We don't want to come in to close to us and I agree with that. Unfortunately, I think of come over a little more because they should've should've went for everyone's safety and the health, and there's a hundred percent of talking about. That's at least the people coming back to reality. That hospitals are there for a reason How fortunate we recover Good Samar Hospital in the village of suffering they lived in absolute. Phenomenal what they've done for the community and helping our residents out above and beyond every day. Yeah, you know and one thing. I wanted to mention you know we're having I was having some technical difficulties starting up the program and then I forgot to mention. but today we had a tragic loss in Roland County and we lost our County clerk Prado someone that I've known for many years and I know a huge loss to our community and to his family so my my condolences to his family and to all the people of rock. Because when you talk about a public servant Prado really was the epitome of that, and it was such a likable guy. you know, never said a bad thing about anyone at least that I ever heard and it was a guy. you could always talk to and always it was a great communicator, be able to talk to anyone so such a loss for for our community and I just wanted to you know, share that with everyone so thank you for allowing me to do that. We have a question on the question is what has been the most common call that the police Department is receiving since the stay at home homeowners, the most common yeah, Senator Whitney would be medical related, but but you know when I talk and I have a family, we talked a lot and I are back up in the military. A lot we've been getting a lot of medical medical costs much more than we've that I'll be honest like people say that's we've had probably the biggest increase. Cause I've ever seen in my 30 years here during that time, and that's been the most we're getting there maybe a fact of the motors and people congregating. We're not too much of that stuff at all and we have that small groups people calling the people we spoke to were phenomenal working with us. no problem with their way put the mask on so we have a lot of issues with that. It's a sort of but most of it in medical are cause of mostly medical costs. That's really interesting. Yeah, the you know one of the questions we also have is and I get and this would be for for both of you. have you seen an increase in calls for drug overdose or incidences with alcohol or other types of drugs during this time. We've seen what do you think I guess with drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, I hate to say it, but an EMS we see it across the board but I think we've seen a decrease because people are worried. It's a call 911 originally but now we're we're back to those and I mean it's definitely more prevails. We see it more with with the community out there we are seeing a lot more unfortunately, DOA you know, unfortunately patients who are found in the morning by a loved one or a spouse or a family member deceased and you know that's definitely spiked. I definitely see a lot more than normal and in that scenario and what do you think that's attributed to is that the fact that people are just not calling like a chief Osborn was talking about that you know, you're maybe you got something that normally you would go to the doctor, but you're just you know I'll wait because of everything that's going on is that possible. That's definitely a possibility that was something that crossed my mind. I know with a lot of the stats that are coming out of the States. We go through briefings numerous times a week. Actually I just got off at Three PM briefing with the ATO H and A few weeks ago, they came out with the numbers saying that people's 02 sets I have been dropping drastically just with a few steps who are on the who have club in 19, so they would be feeling okay, maybe a little weak talking in bed and then they get from their bed to the bathroom, Let's say, or just a few steps away from their bed and they're all too sad will drop dramatically. so you know it's just we don't know enough about the virus. you have to give an exact answer or the. Answer but we do know that the trend in GOA is definitely increasing a lot more codes. a lot more CPR. you know it's just unfortunate but I I definitely attribute to the virus somehow. yeah. And we react with the overdoses right, a bad one and like he was saying in the last month of March, was surrenders within a matter of three days. We had 32 and one night she overdose. She's that we actually brought back with No-I Cann coated out not breathing, not responsive and I was with a couple of day period, so I was very concerned. Unfortunately, it just sort of stopped at that point. There was a three in about two and one night and another one is two nights later, so we were headed towards a bad trend. unfortunately. International just turn it off right. Yeah, You know another interesting question. in this one they're asking have there been any areas in particular that Springhill ambulance has responded to that need attention like nursing homes or independent facilities. have you seen as that? it's something that has been increased. We have seen. I mean we've always had calls in nursing homes are our territory has a handful of them so it's. You know crazy unheard of first go to nursing homes a lot definitely seen our share of nursing. I wouldn't say it's anything crazy out of the ordinary, though, and I know a lot of people are talking about. That's in nursing homes and what's going on in them in hospitals but I I it's not out of the ordinary right now. right? Okay. Yeah. we've what was interesting is today there was a whole firestorm that got set off because the shops at Nanette, there were some information that they were gonna be opening on May sixteenth. And it was what happened was it was Simon Properties. They own Chas in Danny and they own Woodbury common they had put out this message to their tenants basically nationwide about all the States and they said you know when you could possibly open and so it was really interesting and I finally got some clarity from Simon Property group that they did not plan to open on May sixteenth, but you can imagine it set off a firestorm because. Are saying you know we're we're the governor just got through this whole thing about we have to meet certain criteria before we can open, but I think it speaks to the fact that people are getting antsy. There's no question about it. The economy is a real problem. people wanna get back to work and are just really ready to go but I think what's very important is that we have to make sure that health and safety are coming first and that's something that we just have to make sure that protocols being followed through on and that that criteria is being met. You know, are there things that you guys. From your first experience and experience that you think is important criteria that we should be looking at before we start to loosen the restrictions on social distancing and allowing businesses to open or the things that you know you think are important to look at in this and in this area, I mean I think just from entrepreneurs can walk your patrol and a lot a lot of neighbors every day heavy patrols residential areas. Plus we have a business district and I don't know what's gonna come out of it, but I'm sure you'll agree with just with the masks. People can wear the mask. I think we're just make it a lot easier very safe to me. That's that's been asked of us before as a police Department. people asked us to call us or we can have to wear a mask or just lifted that will just be something for the potential. I'm sure you've probably thought about in the state level, but we're seeing in a local level where people ask us. Yes, That's what I would think would be the biggest thing well, I think also hygiene just I think we just got very comfortable over the years know with just managing, let's say the flu or. you know this thing spreads so much more easily people just have to proper hygiene washing hands that touching your face, although that people actually realize how much they touch their face cuz They it's hard not to touch my face. Yeah, but you know just those kind of basic things, but I have a local business and you know early March when this thing was starting, I told all my employees you know, here's our proper precautions. wash your hands regularly. Don't touch your face. you know here this is. Hand sanitizer for the car just to drop this off. Let it dry in your hands. It's just knowing how to I guess minimize the spread of this thing is important and as long as you have those proper precautions, you're at a low risk of contracting it. you know obviously stay away from high populated areas. if you're at high risk, you should definitely try to have family members. go shopping for you minimize your exposure to the to public areas. You know, just just being smart. Yeah and business should always have a plan to keep their employees safe to keep their patients safe, the customer says. Yeah. I think this is gonna open up that that exactly what you're talking about That businesses particularly retailers, but every business is gonna need to have a protocol in place best practices to really take what we've learned and have these basic types of you know socialist social distancing in place and then if something does pop up that you could. These practices even more severely, but you could do it quicker. I think that's obviously gonna be something that moves forward and right government will have to mandate some of it. I think a lot of it will be just common sense and best practices that people develop like chief Osborn was just talking about with the masks. yes, I don't anticipate that that will continue for much longer that people will be required to wear the mask, but I'm sure we'll be seeing people. Them for a long time and all of these things just the social norms have changed. I know we're we're creatures of habit and we are social creatures. You know we wanna be with each other and so I think a lot of these things we'll get we'll get back to normal somewhat quicker, but I think we'll also have that idea in our heads that we maybe we don't need to shake hands every time and things like that. that might be a permanent reality as a result. Of this of this of covet, that's my problem. I'm a head shaker. Yeah, my mother was Sicilian. I can't open it. Yeah. so my personality and I agree that's one of the things which we're talking about. It's probably got a little bit. I'm sick 50 and one meeting and that's what I do and I agree with it. so I gotta be fit now right. Yeah. I was just that Rockland Psychiatric Center. I was over there before this call we've got a great donation of 20 - 500 face shields and it was. Group at Minnesota that so some of the things that we're doing over here and knew the need they reached out and they have a real easy simple way to put together these ratios. But anyway, long story short, you know I had over there and then I'm walking in someone goes to shake my hand. you know in the midst of this. we've got the PPE on, but it's just out of it's human nature. You know, we're wired that way and it's gonna take it takes a while to break it. You know. I'm like, Oh no, we can't shake hands you know so it's it's very an awkward situation but I think that's. Of the things that we've really gotten a handle on that I wanted to ask you guys about you know advice for the public right that you know most of us are not interacting with law enforcement or with our first responders our ambulance crew members on a daily basis, you know but what what advice do you have to the public in terms of helping you guys do your jobs as best as possible? how can we be a good? you know patient if you will. let's say if the police do have to come to our House or if the ambulance does have to come what are ways that we can help to make sure that it's a smooth experience. you know as smooth as possible, I said, I'd like to go very quickly with on the police and we would ask it's common sense. If there's a reason we come to your door and we ask you to come outside and maybe to be report that we don't have to go inside your House and look at the damage or the move Somebodys. We're gonna ask you to come outside if we can that's the protection of you and us. obviously we're wearing masks. That's number one number two. It's really just to try to ask just some just work with us. There is we'll be doing these things anything ask you. It's for protection of all because I've stressed this like if we can, we don't really take phone calls. We don't take reports over the phone. We just never have, however, a woman called in a publishers' having. Depending on what the text messages, we took it over the phone and she said that's the messages through our email system. just to so if you're thinking, I really wanna talk to a police officer in person realize there's a reason we're trying to do that. so we keep less interaction between you and the people other people that's the biggest thing in the police said. And when we explain it to a couple of residents, it's one of the open Department Department. We know most of the 12000 people living in the most of them. My name. My name is mister Millen. And when we explained to them, here's why we do it. They were great. so that's what's so we would ask that they don't work a little bit on why we're doing it for protection. Yeah. as far as the EMS is concerns, I gotta go Chief Osborne you know, sometimes there will be some calls where we may ask you to just come outside, you know, especially if it's you know someone even Ced in the beginning, you know if you're in your room waiting for us, you know and you create your. You could walk you know, come get us by the front door so that we can walk outside. We're minimizing the risk of our E M t's gonna be exposed now just to be clear. We are open for business 365 days. You know a year call anytime any day. It doesn't make a difference if you're inside and you need us. We're coming in just understand that when we come in now, we're kind of treating every calls of potential call so you don't wanna obviously you know even someone who's in a car accident. They may have it. They may be symptomatic so all our infused are wearing protective gear all the proper protection they have their masks. Their faces They have their gowns so if you see an EMT coming in with that, please don't get scared. don't get frightened. it's for our protection. It does not mean anything in your condition. Obviously, we don't even know your condition cuz we haven't even you know confronts you yet. So please don't worry we are here to help but if you can by coming outside that it'll definitely help our EMTs and our drivers from coming into the building as far as you know being scared to call 911, don't be scared if you need assistance, please. You can always ask infused for their opinions. You know our nature is you wanna go get checked out. We wanna go to the hospital to help you cuz you obviously hold for a reason but a lot of people. these days are also thinking of alternate care. Now. it's supposed to go to the hospital. Maybe I can go to an urgent. you know you need stitches or or you need you know an X-ray most people used to go to the hospitals for those kind of things but now we're seeing an increase in people going to see it in other locations like urgent cares, which will pop up all across you know the town and the County. So you know think about that approach to and feel free to ask their opinion. like I said, we're probably gonna have to get checked out cuz that is our nature, but you know we're here to help in any way that we can. We don't have X-ray machines and we don't have no excessive gear on ours but we would be able to guide you at least a little bit. Yeah and how about you. I mean, there's obviously some things that you guys have always done. but now, I'm sure there's a much bigger emphasis on sterilizing the equipment that you're using the rig the police cars what is that? Like and how was that impacted your operations? I'm gonna send was really good GW come in every day sanitizer spray that up, please call the chemicals while they're in the situation as well because we do have President still coming in and we have to master up the prisoners and sanitize all cell area obviously can expose the officers or personnel good to be here for eight 1012 hours till we get a virtual. I think it really has it's just it's changed when you look at things and how we have to operate in the cleanliness part of it, he said. Why we put our hands, said that I was wearing masks, but basically a public works Department and our personnel and coming a lot more than ever have to clean. so it's definitely put more work for everybody, not just the police officers and so we bring out the company and actually a few times a week to like Deepa. I guess where they do a Fogg and Aed the entire ambulance top to bottom and that's a few times a week by professional company. In addition to that, our crews do a clean and a sterilization in the beginning of every day. so you can ambulance will be clean anyways every single day and then in between every single call, we have a sprayers on our ambulance and we have wipes disinfectant wedge and after every single call we would wipe down and hose down the ambulance. unfortunately it does. Time but you know our next patient may not have 19 and we don't want him to contract from our previous patients. So unfortunately, it's become a common practice after every single call, walking down, sterilizing and ambulances. The I had a question that came in about the social distancing the face mask. I know we've we've spoken about that. and this is a question for Chief Osborne is have you had to enforce any of the social distancing orders? is that something where you guys have had to actually use. Officers and go out and either really remind people or actually the issue them in a summons and as at this time we should know summons for what we have been called to scenes where people feel people that too close, maybe people at their House and every time we've got up. We've got a very good response that we felt was even something that could be considered maybe a little too close, We've explained the situation explained the law and that had one. No problem, We've got nothing here in the I think one of the departments we have a little bit more issues. We haven't had them here though, but you know there is we have several times to several calls. Absolutely yeah and I know Neil I know we spoke about when I was at the SpringHill ambulance for been alox training that we did I guess it's a couple of months ago now, at least cuz it just flies by and we talked to. The need where about having a Mobile type 10 where you'll be able to treat patients in case, there was some sort of big event that you need to to get people and and and test them in their site. do you wanna just talk to us a little bit about that about the need and why that would be important for an ambulance like Spring Hill to have anytime you look at large scale calls. it could be a structure fire. It could be heat exhaustion it could be like. Carbon monoxide kind of thing where you're gonna be there for a long period of time. you need to treat patients or you need to test patients but you need to have kind of protection from the environment, whether it be keeping people warm to cool or just keeping the people away from other people like with the covid-, 19 kind of thing. If you have, you know a bunch of people that you wanna take out and let's have a resident so but you don't want them to be next to the pool officers and firefighters that are there so we're looking for we're looking to get a. A tent that we could set up, There's all sorts of first response companies out there that have them. They have blow up ones that are actually rather sturdy. they have ones that you pitch that take a little bit longer but you know everything has a pro and a con. But that's what we're looking for. so that way we could have something like that where we could have and to 15 patients you know come in and get treated by multiple EMTs or if it's like a fire scene where firefighters have heat exhaustion that happens a lot to we. Want them to come inside and have a seat on the bench? Take off their gear. cool down have some cold water and let us check their heart rate respiration temperature and then as long as everything is good, let them go out, but at least they have a place you know to to sit and relax. it's a tool that a lot of companies have have utilized across the country. it's one of those things that are up and coming. Obviously ambulances are our first priority. That's what we need to to go out to patients but these are are great to have available. When needed for these larger scale events. That's good to know and I yeah, I was thinking about that you know since we spoke about the situation, we're dealing with now or you just never know when you'll have to deal with a Mass number of patients and that's something important to have so hopefully that's that could become a reality for Spring Hill ambulance soon. I wanted to ask chief Osborne about I know we touched upon it about domestic violence and this has been something that's just so concerning that it's a it's a hideous problem that we've been dealing with in society for forever and. Things that I realized in New York state and around the country that a lot of our laws have just really not kept up with the with the problems and the things that we know now But what's What advice do you have to someone that's in a situation? you know from your experience in law enforcement is there any advice that you could give to someone that is a survivor of domestic violence or is in a situation that is just Being being subject to that type of abuse, I I do, and I think the first thing that people need to realize domestic violence victims out-of-stock their fault take a lot of times the victim mentality to make the victim mentality comes in. It's my fault. I should've done this dred violence is a cycle. It starts out very good. got a great little worse. was explosion and it goes back to where everything's good again. What is the break? You need to get help first thing I can do is contact us. We will help you with everything that we work very closely with the Center for Safety and Change. I love them over there. I can do They're fantastic was to be said I got a whole crew with them over there. You know the rest of them. That is a Organization that feels a domestic violence victims and gets them services that they can utilize whether it's financial assistance for food housing for the children support us to break. Cycle they need to report it to us what it does is important because we have the resources we can allocate the resources to where they need to send them to where they need to go and get the resources cuz it's a very sad and you hate it. when you say it, it's been going on forever. I think you do domestic violence laws are very good mandatory arrest, which means the officers arrested perpetrators and not the victims and. With the officers that's helped us a lot, but I think it is just reporting it and reaching out we will help you head off with. We can help you with it. Yeah, I see that DV reports overall are up 30 percent in this past April, as compared to the April of last year so it's just it's a troubling thing to know and we know that many people never reported so that's even more of a problem. I wanted to. Give out a phone number that's actually a text line that anyone can text for help. what's recommended is to put this in your phone and you code it as something else. So you know the person doesn't know the abuser doesn't know who you're texting but that number it's eight 4972121 again. It's eight 4972121 and that is a special. Texting hotline where someone can text and get help that they need it's staffed 24 seven and it's for the prevention of domestic violence and so there's trained professionals on that line that can help so I just wanted to get the word out about that. one of the things we're able to do last year was we passed legislation in New York. it came from a resident in Rockland County. that came to me and explained to me her situation. As a survivor and one of the glaring things was that until we pass this legislation that you had to report the case of domestic violence in the jurisdiction where you live and we know in knowing about the domestic violence that many times you know survivors have to flee that area. so this to me is just common sense and we were able to pass that legislation so now someone can report. case of domestic violence in any police jurisdiction in New York state, so it's a small thing, but it makes a big difference and we think because of this, you know little changes to the law that can really have a profound impact in getting people. the help that they need. I mean, I just know from situations where you know someone has gotten the courage to go and report this case and then they're told no you have to go to another jurisdiction. it just might. Happen so that's that's a real problem and and so I'm glad that legislation is passed but it's one of many things that we need to do in New York to really bring these laws into the 20 first century and make sure just like we're fighting Covid- 19. We're following the signs we're following the data and that's what we have to do with many of these other issues that plague society I got a question from someone, they said. You know how can how can I get involved? to help out so I guess it's a question for the police Department and for the ambulance Department to know as a regular citizen. maybe I don't know you know this person has a medical background or anything, but let's just say your average you know Joe off the Street wants to help support the police what can they do? I mean? I think the big thing is the Center right now. the biggest thing we're just trying to get is it's sort of. it's a. One person at a time Never since I've been a police officer I've ever seen a door of a police station locked my door is locked. We're not in the public and use the restrooms. It's too much risk of everything deliveries and delivered to the front door. so the police say right now what we're asking is the support is what we're doing help us spread the word. We're really thinking of people in because it is simple fact, we're trying to keep the exposure to everybody limited what we've been doing. People offered help cuz I've been referring to good Samar Hospital here in the village. Good sams different things. I think that people can help with which I've been directing them. We would love to help and the biggest thing is just to show support for the police, but the issue we're having is keeping a limited exposure to everything is lifted and I hope that make sense and I just hope people understand that it's more of a think everybody at this point. Yeah and I'm from we. If you, if you wanna help we would gladly take your help right now, we have people coming by just to say thanks which works tremendously cuz our members are volunteers you know so it's just a simple. Thank you or you wanna donate something people have been dropping off. you know gift cards for a certain restaurants or some people have actually been police departments have been dropping by the local PBA came by Suez came by you know just with with some snacks sandwiches. you know it was just incredible and we thank them. everyone who came by I know I didn't even a portion of who came but thank you all for your support and your help for those individuals that are are intrigued in the profession. I gotta tell you I I'm not in the medical profession by trade. I started off as a teacher and a high school math teacher and this is just a hobby. I'm a volunteer. I don't make money out of this. I just like assisting and helping and it feels great our members. Volunteers and and they have local businesses or they have professions and they get up their time on weekends nights days whenever they're available to assist the community. it's a great way to sleep soundly at night knowing that you did well and we're always looking for volunteers. We do all the training in House. All you gotta do is visit our website. I don't know if I'm allowed to share this. okay. please. It's a SpringHill EMS dot Org. so it's WWW dot Spring. EMS dot ORG on the top you can click the link to join us fill out your application online. we really need no training at all you need is a will to help and to be physically fit. Obviously you have to be able to maintain you know carrying equipment or carrying patients or removing patients and then we do all the training in House. we start off with basic CPR training equipment training that you ride along. We'll sponsor your course for for the EMT exam offer the MC course actually the whole entire thing and you know it's. It's a great way to meet people. Our volunteers are one tremendous family that we have so much fun together. I like everyone has great hearts. Obviously, if you're gonna give up your free time to volunteering to help the community, you're doing it for a good reason. You're definitely a special person and all of our volunteers are incredible. I mean we goof around a lot. We got a ton done. I mean we so far this year. We're a third of the way through the year and we're almost at 3000 calls in. Which is obviously because of covid- 19, we had a tremendous five -week period where we had over a thousand calls but our members stuck up to the plate. We have numbers who took you know A hundred hundred 50 calls a month because they're available they weren't at work. They weren't at school and they wanted to help and you know that's just the only part of it. We do events. We're out in the community like Senator Cari said. We did on the training we do Stop the Bleed training. We do CPR trainings. We have blood drives. We do blood pressure screenings. We love helping the community and. We can we love getting our name out there. We're doing a five K run when when he opens that was supposed to be now actually, but hopefully within the next month or two, we'll be able to do an outdoor five K run for a charity so you know, look up that look that up on our Facebook page but you know we have a tremendous Organization that has grown beautifully due to all of our members. Everyone's hard work and if you wanna be a part of that, if you wanna come in and just see what it's like if you wanna just talk to someone or you gotta do is go to our website. reach out and send us an email. You know knock on our door, maybe not right now cuz we're covid- 19, but you know, usually you're just knock on the door ring. The doorbell come in you just chat with someone see what it's like but we're always looking for volunteers who live locally. even if you don't live locally, you wanna come down. We have some people that come from Pennsylvania. They started off here. I think Senator you started as an AP right or or a.m. right. Yeah. How I was gonna say I had it was a great experience for me in high school. I was part of the ambulance Youth core and I know pretty much all of our ambulance. In Rockland, Westchester have the youth core component, and that was just a great experience. you know it was you learn so much whether it's CPR or other types of strategies to help people and just learning the ins and outs of how this works which is a great experience for me. so I encourage anyone to do it. not only are you helping the community, but you're really helping yourself as well. you know rising to the occasion the people that do this job. you know it's not for the faint at heart. you you deal with some very traumatic situations, but you're there when people most need you and so you know, I have a great deal of respect for all of our first responders. you know our police of course and our ambulance core members you know of which in the lower Hudson Valley are volunteer which is just tremendous. You know these people do it because they have a passion and we're just so blessed to have so many of these people stepping up, you know as volunteers in our community and what's exciting about Spring Hill ambulance is you guys are always doing innovative things you know the Stop the Bleed training. you're reacting to what you see from your calls and what's in the community. So we're just really I know myself as a resident of the community and all of us. In in New York are really grateful to what you do. so I'm glad you talked about the run that you guys are doing and that's what I wanted to ask you about what are some of the things that you have planned or are you able to do any? I mean you guys are obviously very busy, but some of these things have you been able to take it to a digital format or or things just on hold for right now. Unfortunately, the in-person certifications are on hold for now. we are trying to send out more information through. Social media and you know safety precautions, but right now, it's a lot of in 19 related stuff and just managing a House are our administrators have been spending a ton of time or lieutenants are our President on securing proper PPE for our members. Obviously cuz you know that's hard to come across everywhere. Yeah, I wanted to ask you about that. How how are you guys doing on PE? thankfully we worked extremely hard at the end of February beginning of March, we spent a solid three weeks securing you know what we projected to be a safe number. Of items to have there were a few things that we sure that we felt a little bit short on and we've continued to secure throughout, but thankfully, we have a stock of our members have never been at a point where they didn't have what they needed. and right now, I'm fairly comfortable now. although we never know if there's gonna be another surge so I don't wanna say anything in that sense, but people have been donating. Thank you for that. the town of. Has been a great resource that they secured a lot of TPE for a lot of the hospitals locally, a lot of the nursing homes and for the ambulance so we were able to get from them. so thank you very much for that. Also the County has been incredible to the state has been incredible. so you know we do have luckily we have support a support system in place for for whoever needs it for proper reasons. The chief Osborne, How are you guys doing on PP? We're doing great. We're actually very fortunate. We have a great stock of taking care of us. We work very closely with DPW and our good friends at the fire Department. We are we're up to and above at this point, you know, I think one of the concerns you know the surge coming hopefully not, but if it is, we will be ready to end if needed. Instead of I can just add real quickly because I'm talking to him and father. I interpreted the question is helping, and please put some of the things that I need to mention if I could people can drop it off so much food gift cards. We've been eating way too much here, which is a great thing. What's up? It's great. We have all the restaurants in town, The residents and businesses has been every single day since it started every remaining food families that are going for the President the family's coming in tomorrow to donate food, they're putting signs in our Playstation on. we're doing a birthday drive bys for children. We've done 40 of them. Three weeks we take four or five police cars for the show at the window and tied down for the kids tons of we actually are doing a invite you tomorrow. I don't know time with your other form doing it's gonna help us. We're gonna have a nurses parade and I said I should say the session starting at the board is popping go to Good Sam. The response has been unbelievable The Villages suffering There's appreciation for gospel. Call myself in the mirror and said, let's do it So it's gonna be massive. You're invited tomorrow. We'll put you right up in the front five PM. You're more than welcome and we're doing a food drive in conjunction with our great friends at the Fire Department, some of the teachers at a local elementary school contacted me 30 - five to 40 families that need to feed every week. Get the food I have a hard time job and everything else. I contacted fire Department spoke and they call me and said what can we do to? A food drive tomorrow, I'm told them so these are things that we're stepping outside the box, too. We have a very active social media page. We run a lot of lot of pages and a massive followings. We have information to have every day so we've been blessed and then all the parts is EMS. We can't do it without you guys. You know that I say it all the time. Sunlight through this hard time to start, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. There's been a lot of silver linings in this, You know that no question about it. so with that I wanna thank both of you for your time. I know you guys are extremely busy. so I appreciate you taking some time out and come on here and just telling us what's going on in the front lines.
