When I find a fabric I love, I buy lots of it, which is the case with this yellow with bright red poppies fabric. It became a set of matching outfits, and I still have lots more yardage!
I found three very different styles and had a blast making this family look of two dresses and skirt. The little dress features a pleated panel on the front, the larger dress looks so very Little House on the Prairie, and the paneled skirt is a bit retro rockabilly. It was only after stitching up the outfits that I noticed the name given to the fabric ... Family Forever. How appropriate! These garments are now listed in my Etsy shop, Sew Playful Shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/SewPlayfulShop
This retro print skirt, with the attached shorts, brings me back to my childhood, in the 1960s. I always wanted to hang upside-down on the swing set at school, but girls had to wear skirts or dresses to school back then, and I would not have felt comfortable "letting it all hang out." Skorts were just coming on the market back then, but only in sportswear, mostly tennis. I would have loved a skirt with shorts.
These days my granddaughters often wear bike shorts under their dr...esses and skirts, but I thought it might be more comfortable to have only one waistband. The skirt design is from one of my favorite designers, Tie Dye Diva. I added the shorts using a basic shorts pattern. I've added this skirt, which is a size 6, to my new etsy shop, https://www.etsy.com/shop/SewPlayfulShop. However, this skirt can be made in cotton fabric of any color/design. I love to find just the right fabric for my customers.
Playful Princess dresses are for creative dress-up play. The skirt backs are open, with just three buttons to close the top bodice. The bases are 100% cotton, with some fancier overlays like lace and organza. However, most of what touches the child's skin is cotton. These are wonderful for at home pretend play, especially with other children because the Playful Princess dresses can go over whatever the child is already wearing. But they are also great for family vacations because they are easy to carry in a backpack for on-the-spot princess photo opportunities. No more wearing a scratchy princess costume all day!
Matching outfits for photography sessions, vacations, and family events are a speciality at Sew Playful. I can make each outfit identical, or customize the design for each child. I enjoy matching the style of each outfit to the intended recipient's personality!
I was introduced to Shopkins by my grandchildren, and must admit that the whole collecting aspect of the toy is quite intriguing. However, I was skeptical about Shopkins fashion, until I saw this chambray print. I'm a convert! This top is available in any size. The top is eyelet, completely lined. The length can be tunic or dress.
