Yes, of course we need an NHS that works – and the crisis in urgent and emergency care should terrify all of us. But health is about much more than a health service that’s there for us when we need it.
Ill-health (and death) are unequally distributed in our society. To really tackle ill-health, we also need to sort out inequalities in income, education, housing, diet, and employment. The evidence for this has been out there and known for many decades.
The current cost of living crisis will hurt many of us. For some people, those who are already struggling the most, increased food and fuel prices will be paid for in lives. See more
