Improving #ElectionIntegrity is a current issue among governments, voters, political experts and the media. Yet, tech giants are also interested in the conversation. It could be definitely useful to keep the dialogue open http://bit.ly/2BhmcjK

The World Economic Forum just launched its 2017 Global Gender Gap Report. We have been particularly interested to monitor the Political Empowerment dimension of the report. It currently holds the widest gender gap, but at the same time it is also the one exhibiting the most progress (despite a slowdown in progress this year.) Among the key findings are:
• Only Iceland has closed more than 70% of its gender gap on this subindex
• No other country has currently closed more th...an 60% of its gender gap
• Four countries—Nicaragua, Rwanda, Norway and Finland—have crossed the 50% threshold
• Lebanon, Qatar and Yemen have the lowest rankings, having closed less than 2% of their political gender gap
• 95 countries rank below the subindex world average (0.227) this year

We love it when the debate on #Election Integrity opens up to some of the less-known issues that authorities face when designing, running or auditing an election. This is why we enjoyed reading Michael Byrne’s piece ‘Why are our ballots so poorly designed?’ published in The Conversation.
Although we do not share all his views, we applaud the author’s call to discuss and treat voting systems usability as an essential concern.
We particularly liked his take on what constitute good ballot design. Finally, we agree it is possible to design electronic interfaces that are superior to paper ballots, with “careful design by usability experts and a commitment to multiple cycles of testing.”

Good news about election technology continue to surface, one example being Estonia’s online voting: “Estonia’s technology prowess has made it something of a laboratory for the dangers of the threats posed by hackers.”

Tiny Estonia may be Europe's most-wired nation. Its proximity and relations with Russia raise concerns that its democracy will be subject to cyberattack.

“For elections to be truly credible, and not just free, fair and transparent, all aspects and processes of the election - including the electronic and technology processes- must be trustworthy.” We couldn’t agree more with the author. #ElectionsTransparency
