The 2nd Smiles for Miles car show for True Blue Neighbors Youth Mentoring Program was a success! The car show was held on June 30th and the summer session had 80 students in their enrollment.

The day started off iffy as thunderstorms rumbled through the Tulsa area in the morning and the forecast showed scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. The weather cleared up by 11 am and the notification was sent to the volunteers to proceed with the car show by 11:30.

And what a... car show it was!!! 75 kids + school volunteers showed up and got to sit in 19 different volunteer vehicles ranging from a classic Chevy Bellaire, Cobra, Porsche’s, Corvette’s, Maserati, BMW’s, Mini Cooper Race Car, Jeep 4x4s, Subaru, a Street Bike, and a plane fuel tanker that has been converted to a fire truck. At the end of the event, the kids received a special treat by getting to spray each other with the fire hose!

The volunteers met after the event at a local park and had a cookout. It was great to hear new ideas and to see how much they enjoyed the event just as much as the kids did!

Thanks to Motor Trend for providing magazines for us to hand out at the event, to the Tulsa City-County Library for bringing the bookmobile, to the Peninsula Fire Department for the fire truck, and to all the volunteers for generously donating their time and providing HOPE to these kids by letting them sit in their cars.

On a side note, I sincerely apologize for just now posting this. No excuses, I will be on top of it next time.

Please check out the photos and videos from the link below and THANKS again for all the kind words and encouragement.

And please stay tuned for the next event!

I feel that Smiles for Miles provides a positive contribution to each child we let sit in our cars and each child we encourage to read.

Will you let kids sit in your car?

Smiles for Miles is having a car show on Friday, June 30th from 1:30 - 3 PM and we're looking for volunteers to bring their cars and let kids sit in it. The car show will be at Kendall Whittier by Tulsa University.

Please message or email Orlando at orlando@callorlando.com if you have a car you'd like to volunteer for the car show. We're also having a volunteer cookout after the car show - thanks to Russ Dugger with Farmers Insurance - so ...it'll give you a chance to meet other volunteers.

Also, special thanks to Julie Hoover at Bank of Oklahoma Mortgage for helping provide magazines to the kiddos!

I received my first issue of Motor Trend magazine since signing up the True Blue Neighbor's kids. 133 of them probably got their magazines today too...with their names on printed on it! That's a big deal, ya'll!

Thanks to Julie Haddock Hoover with Bank of Oklahoma Mortgage for her support in making sure we can provide magazines to these kids. Please call her at (918) 488-7164 for your refinance or mortgage needs.
