Southeast Warren Warhawks Rugby updated their status.

The injury bug hit us hard last week in our losses to Adel and Van Meter...two concussions, a bad ankle sprain, and a dislocated rib.

We were down to 7 ruggers for tonight's matches at Southeast Polk.

We fell to Boone 14-42, with Kaleb Marois dotting down twice.

...

Nate Goff reinjured his ribs and couldn't play the second match. (to clarify, Nate tore connective tissue in his ribs two weeks ago...played through it last week, resulting in a dislocated rib,and tried to play through the pain tonight...and was obviously in more pain watching the shorthanded match) I offered to forfeit the match, since we were short, but the young men stepped up, saying they wanted to play, even if we only had 6 players.

We ultimately fell to Van Meter 0-42, but the Warhawks played good, fundamental rugby. They were true rugby players tonight.

A couple of losses tonight for the Warhawks. Once again, we controlled most of the possession in both matches, but small mistakes led to opposition scores.

We improved on last week's 0-42 loss to Winterset, with a 14-49 setback tonight. Elijah Williams and Dalton Lovell crossed the line.

In the second match of the night, we lost a tight match with Indianola, 7-14. Drake Sharp was rewarded for his constant dirty work at the ruck to put down a try.

Southeast Warren - Melcher Dallas Rugby is kicking off a fundraiser.

We are selling membership to a cash back program, that has access to over 200 nationwide retailers. $20 gets you access for the year (through March 31, 2018), which sets up a wallet related to your credit card. You essentially, at the point of sale, purchase a pre-paid gift card to your retailer on the list (purchase on an app with your smartphone at the point of sale, or purchase from home on your compu...ter while logged into the Shopping Boss site {shoppingboss.wix.com/sewarren}, and take to the retailer), and that retailer will put cash back into your wallet, based on the percentage they've set up.

For example, Bass Pro pays back 9%, Aeropostale 6%, Bed Bath & Beyond 3%, Callaway 9%, Gap 6%, Delta Airlines 3%, Whole Foods, Under Armour, Buffalo Wild Wings, Fleming's, etc. Those funds can either be paid back to you as a check, or you can use them to make your next purchase, or part of your next purchase.

For a $20 donation that helps Warhawks Rugby, you can make your money back as quickly as you like. (the guy who runs the fundraiser showed us his account that he's been using for a couple of months, and he's already built up a $175 balance)

I can't list all of the retailers, but they are nationwide, and 90% of them are local as well.

USA Sevens Rugby

Rugby in America like you've never seen it before. I'm ready to run through a wall after watching this!

Now that the season has come to a close, it's time to update the All-Time Scoring Leaders. Kaleb Marois has moved into 2nd overall at SEW...and we have a lot of current players (no seniors on this team for the second straight year) who moved up the ranks as well.

Time to start building.

Congratulations to Kaleb Marois for making the 1A All-State Rugby Team.

Even though we had a rough season, Kaleb was one of the league scoring leaders.

He's come a long way since showing up to practice as a scrawny 8th grader.

Already looking forward to next year.

We're a couple of weeks into the season, and we've compiled a respectable 2-1 record...with wins over Indianola & Urbandale, and a loss to Lincoln. We have a forfeit win over Carlisle, but that will likely be a wash, as Carlisle may not field a team this year. We did lose to Valley's 2nd team...doesn't count on our record, but I'm including it in the season, and all-time points scored list.

The season scoring leaders are listed at the link below.

We hope to increase those... totals on Friday against Winterset @ 6:30 and Marion @ 7:30, at the Spring Creek Sports Complex in Altoona. Come support the ruggers.

The Ruggers traveled to Valley tonight, where we were scheduled to play Urbandale and Carlisle.

The first match saw us beat a short-staffed Urbandale side (we know all about that from last year...Iron Man rugby) 42-7.

Carlisle were unable to play this week, so we played against Valley's second team...and were thankful for the second match (thank you Coach Wilson one crew). We lost on the last play of the match, 21-28.

...

Warhawks played like brothers and learned from the matches on the night.

Try scorers were Kaleb Marois, Dalton Lovell, Josh Davenport, Josh Jimenez, and Ryan Billett!

We travel to Southeast Polk next week.

My apologies for not posting information earlier this week.

We played Indianola and Des Moines Lincoln tonight.

In a great back and forth match, we pulled out a 14-7 victory over Indianola, in their first ever match as a club.

...

We were outmatched against Lincoln in the second match, but played well and learned a little more about running rugby.

Be proud of your Warhawks tonight.
