The Farm Bill is set to expire on September 30, 2018, so many discussions are already in progress.
Salad bars are available upon request for elementary schools in the CCSD. The CCSD has added salad bars to the lunch line-up in secondary schools as well. This is a great way to increase student intake of healthier foods, kudos to the CCSD Food Service Department!
Encourage your elementary school to request a salad bar from the CCSD Food Service Dept. Salad bars provide students with an opportunity to select their own fruits and veggies, increasing the likeliness that they will consume them. Remember, it isn't nutrition unless the student EATS it.
Crime reduction has been a cited benefit to neighborhoods with the introduction of urban agriculture. This study showed that cleaning up empty lots helped do just that in Philadephia.
The Governor’s Council on Food Security’s Policy Subcommittee wants to hear from community groups who have ideas on nutrition policy and legislation regarding related social determinants of health.
The Council would like to hear your legislative or regulatory ideas and solutions to overcome challenges in your organizations in sponsoring efforts or challenges faced by the clients you serve.
