A tragic story from last night...
On April 29, 2017 at around 8pm, the Springdale Police Department received a call of a child that had fallen into the water and been swept away in the area of Ponchartrain Street in northeast Springdale.
A 10-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother were in their backyard and had climbed a fence. This exposed them to rushing waters in a creek bed, which swept away the girl. The Springdale Police & Fire Departments immediately began a search, and also notified Washington County Urban Search & Rescue.
Near midnight, the body of the little girl was found near the same creek bed, just much further south near Randall & Lowell Roads. The creek runs southwest from the subdivision of Ponchartrain to Randall Road. She was pronounced dead at 12:12am.
A special thanks to all our local emergency personnel on-duty and off-duty who came in to help us find this child, knowing the risk. This little girl was a member of our schools and our community. Please allow her family time to grieve; we can release further details later if necessary.

I feel also for the responders that have experienced joy or now maybe helpless feelings because of the loss. I try to verbalize my thanks for helping us. What would we do without those who extend themselves to help others?

Prayers for this family! Why are there so many people who feel it is necessary to question the "why and what for" in these tragic situations. There are grieving families out there!

Very sad, just heartbreaking. Bless this little girl, her brother, and her family. I cant help but wonder why these children were outside at that hour after rains and lightning.
