A tragic story from last night...
On April 29, 2017 at around 8pm, the Springdale Police Department received a call of a child that had fallen into the water and been swept away in the area of Ponchartrain Street in northeast Springdale.
A 10-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother were in their backyard and had climbed a fence. This exposed them to rushing waters in a creek bed, which swept away the girl. The Springdale Police & Fire Departments immediately began a search, and also notified Washington County Urban Search & Rescue.
Near midnight, the body of the little girl was found near the same creek bed, just much further south near Randall & Lowell Roads. The creek runs southwest from the subdivision of Ponchartrain to Randall Road. She was pronounced dead at 12:12am.
A special thanks to all our local emergency personnel on-duty and off-duty who came in to help us find this child, knowing the risk. This little girl was a member of our schools and our community. Please allow her family time to grieve; we can release further details later if necessary.
