BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK (12-18 MARCH 2018)
Neurological Sciences, the offici...al journal of the Italian Neurological Society (SIN) endorses the #BrainAwarenessWeek
In this week #NeurologicalSciences will open a selection of most read and cited contributions underlining how daily life activities influence and are influenced by the #NervousSystem and therefore the #brain itself and how #NeuromuscularDisorders & #neurodegeneration may affect this relationship.
“The brain is the organ by which we think, remember, move, feel, see, talk, sleep and organize all our many activities.
The diseases that affect it are very frequent and cause a decrease or a loss of those functions that the brain so wonderfully coordinates. Research in recent years has achieved important goals and many disorders can be effectively treated, but there is still a long way to go.”
BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK (#BAW) IS THE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY DANA ALLIANCE TO INCREASE WORLDWIDE AWARENESS OF THE PROGRESS AND BENEFITS OF BRAIN RESEARCH.
“In this week the neurologists are invited to open the doors of the places where they work and study to share common goals and strategies to fight brain diseases and to explain the complexity of the brain, nerves and muscles to the general public.
Similarly, in this week, the Journal Neurological Sciences will open significant contributions of general interest recently published and give people the possibility to get inside the wondering complexity of the brain.
With this, we think to contribute to stimulate the awareness on everyday neurologists’ activity aiming to reach a deeper knowledge of our nervous system and of the mechanisms to protect it.”

... We live in a time when the emotions we possess, the identity we carry, the memories we retain, the decisions we take, the unconscious influences to which we are beholden, and the free will we exercise all impact upon the fundamental nature of our consciousness, and determine how the self and identity will express themselves or evolve in a multicultural and pluralistic world. Such evolutionary changes are to be seen in the context of variations in cultural practices, decision-making, social constructions and our self-identity. We are at a critical point in history, when never before have the intersections between culture, self and consciousness been so vital that the human species itself is redefining its distinctiveness as an evolving primate as well as a thinking and transforming person for the better.
