***UPDATE PRESS RELEASE - BARRICADED SUBJECT IN STAFFORD TOWNSHIP ON ROUTE 72 IN CUSTODY

On August 12th, 2016 at 4:45 PM, the Stafford Township Police Department and members of the Ocean County SWAT Team responded to a residence located on Rt. 72 for a report of a barricaded/suicidal male subject. The residence is located in the area of Paramount Escapes on the western portion of Rt. 72.

The subject can be identified as a 32 year old male from Manahawkin, New Jersey.

As a precautionary measure, the Stafford Township Police Department with assistance of the Barnegat Township Police Department, the Stafford Township Fire Company Fire Police and the Department of Transportation closed Rt. 72 between West Bay Avenue in Barnegat Township and Neptune Drive in Stafford Township.

After 3 hours of negotiations, the subject was taken into custody without incident. He has been taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for a physiological evaluation and screening.

At this time, no charges have been filed.

Rt. 72 has been opened up in both directions.

At this time, the incident is under investigation and there is no further information to be released.

The Stafford Township Police Department is currently investigating an incident involving a barricaded subject at a residence located on the western portion of Route 72.

Due to this investigation, Rt. 72 eastbound and westbound lanes are closed between West Bay Avenue in Barnegat Township and Neptune Drive, which is in the Ocean Acres development of Stafford Township.

All traffic is being diverted down West Bay Avenue into Barnegat Township and on Neptune Drive into Ocean Acre...s.

At this time, there is no further information to be released.

The Stafford Township Police Department would like to thank local Stafford Township resident – Thomas King of Cedar Run – for raising $2200 for K9 vests for the Stafford Township Police Department’s K9 Unit.

On his own initiative and time, Mr. King requested donations from local businesses and they responded making the donations so the department could purchase the K9 vests for the K9 Unit.

Announcing the 17th Annual Stafford PBA Golf Tournament at Sea Oaks Country Club in Little Egg, Monday 8/15/16 with a Shotgun Start of 1:00pm. Registration begi...ns at 12 noon. Please register early, as field is limited.

For the first time ever at this tournament, there will be a golf ball drop. 600 hundred numbered golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter. The four balls closest to the pin wins:

1st pays $3000.00
2nd pays $2000.00
3rd pays $1000.00
4th pays $500.00

The Stafford Township PBA Local 297 will be hosting the Manahopkin Beer and Music Festival on August 20, 2016 at the Manahawkin Lake Park from noon until 7pm. The event will feature over 17 craft breweries, assortment of gourmet food trucks, fresh seafood, live music from the band Mott’s Creek Pickers and Funk Schway, Hand Rolled Cigars by Tony Santana and plenty of activities and entertainment for children of all ages. Chris Fritz (right) presented Richard Carolan (left) with a framed Police Unity Tour jersey in appreciation for Mr. Carolan's Foundation supporting Stafford DARE and the Police Unity Tour since 2013. The Richard & Tina Carolan Foundation has provided grant money for our DARE and Community Policing programs as well as our officers' fundraising efforts toward the annual Police Unity Tour bicycle ride to Washington DC. Stafford PBA Local 297 will be hosting the second annual Manahopkin Craft Beer and Music Festival at the Manahakwin Lake Park on Saturday August 20, 2016 from 12 to 7:00 pm. It is free to attend the benefit, and $20 for beer tickets. The $20.00 includes a Manahopkin drinking glass and 12 drink tickets.

This year the event will feature hand rolled cigars to accompany samples of locally distilled liquor, cigar lounge, activities for children, live music by Motts Creek Pickers ...and Funk Schway as well as a large number of food truck vendors. Full pints will be available at the Stafford PBA trailer featuring "Blue Line Brew," a lighter craft beer customized for this event by Pinelands Brewery.
