Former New Madrid County Central standout Kelvin "Earthquake" Anderson was honored at halftime of the NMCC-Kelly football game Friday, Sept. 29 at NMCC High School. Anderson, who was inducted into the Canadian Football League Hall Of Fame last week, was given the NMCC Booster Club Eagle Achievement Award. Known by most as "Earthquake", Anderson, who played for the Eagles from 1986-89, helped NMCC to their first district championship in 1989. He went on to play at Southeast Missouri State University from 1992-94 and finished his career as Southeast's all-time leading rusher with 3,392 yards. In seven years with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL, Anderson had seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons. His 8,292 yards on the ground represents the second-highest total in Calgary history. He was a two-time Grey Cup champion, winning titles in 1998 and 2001, and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 1996.
