A unique wedding at which Cupid was “assisted by science” took place in Perth on 2 October 1926.

It was the first radio wedding to take place in Western Australia and the second to be broadcast in Australia.

The ceremony broadcast in WA and Adelaide was "fully choral". It included soprano Mrs Fred Hudson singing the "Lost Chord" and "Love Divine".

...

Even the bridegroom’s father in far distant Queensland arranged to “listen in” to hear his son say “I will” at the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

The charming bride, Miss Dorothy Brown, wore a dress of white georgette and crepe de chine, touched with silver embroideries and a Brussels net veil, edged with delicate Brussels lace applique held by a circle of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of bridal-flowers. (First image)

Radio listeners who desired to telegraph or write a message of congratulations to the happy couple, were invited to do so.

The State Library has a large collection of wedding photographs taken around WA showing proud families celebrating loved ones and their newly formed kinship.

We have noticed however that since December 2017 our collection of wedding photographs is not as diverse and contemporary as we would like. Donations of wedding photos from the LGBTQI+ community are warmly invited using this form https://slwa.wa.gov.au/collection-offers-form
