Birmingham Youth Strike for Climate: Get Serious about the Climate Campaign. Launch!
Birmingham Youth Strike for Climate has had enough. We are tired of being ...ignored, dismissed and treated as a political prop by Birmingham City Council and the politicians of Birmingham. We are fed up with striking in vain as the council continues to be stagnant on climate action. They have all but ignored the implications of their declaration of a Climate Emergency made in June 2019.
It sickens us to see the consideration to renew the Tysley Incinerator and the planning of non-green infrastructure, as well as the lack of transparency with its own city regarding such initiatives.
We will not tolerate this any longer. On May 18th 2020, we launch our ‘Get Serious about the Climate’ campaign. With four key demands of the council and six target areas, which highlight the council’s specific shortcomings, it is directly targeted at the council, imploring them to act now to address their failings. We want the council to respond formally and publicly to our demands, it is in the best interests of all residents of Birmingham and of the world that they do so.
We demand better. Birmingham deserves better.
We hope everyone is staying safe and staying home during these difficult times. Right now community is more important than ever and we urge anyone that can to get involved with their local mutual aid group, follow this link to find out if your area is in need of support!
Call out for local groups
It’s incredible to see thousands of Mutual Aid groups springing up all over the country, with dozens more each day. However, there are... still some areas of the UK where people are struggling to access local support. For this reason, we’re putting out a callout for mutual aid groups to be set up in the following target areas:
- The north of Ireland
- Dumfries & Galloway
- Highlands & Islands
- Isle of Man
- Muswell Hill
- Cornwall and Devon
- Lincolnshire
- Norfolk
- Cumbria
- Shropshire
- Northants
- Hampshire
- Wiltshire
- Dorset
If you or someone you know lives in any of these regions and isn’t currently in a mutual aid group, but might be interested in setting one up, please share this post to them and encourage them to email us at covidmutualaiduk@gmail.com with subject line RURAL CALL-OUT, and their name, location, and phone number, and we will pair them up with a local group admin to support them in setting up a mutual aid group in their areas.
