Just got back from the pantomime matinee. Not the best but our boys enjoyed it. But must leave some feedback on the cost of refreshments. I know from past experience that the bar prices were expensive... but I could not believe my ears when today we were charged £4.50 for the smallest tub of ice cream! We were a party of 5!
Doesn’t really make it family friendly does it Empire.
Next year try Dick Turpin, at least he had the decency to wear a mask!!

Went to see Jack and the Beanstalk with my 8yr old son. When we went in he was asked if he would like to go on stage at the end of the show. He said yes and gave his name and set number to the steward... called Amy. The time came and no one came to collect him to take him on stage. At the end I approached a girl called Sam who was absolutely awful - only way I can describe her. Wasn’t really interested started telling me she went to row R and couldn’t find him. We were in row D. She was young and had no sympathy at all for my son. All she was interested in is that in her words “followed her instructions”. Due to her manner I asked to speak to the someone else. She got the manager who was very apologetic and gave my son a free programme. They knew he was missing and all it would have taken was for a shout out on stage if they had made a mistake. Awful experience for a child and they way it was dealt with made it worse See More

Will not let me put no stars Sunderland Empire is rediculous I bought tickets for my parents for xmas as a surprise and my mother went and bought same ones for same show same date and time, went into t...icket office to explain what has happened would not do anything and said I needed to email them so came home ,emailed explaining I would pay extra to change to another show they would see to be rang back this morning and told there's nothing that they can do even though they've seen my mothers receipt for the tickets also, saying the general manger of the empire says nothing can be done so I'm now left with senior tickets for 'crazy for you ' which cost £50 which I can't even use as I'm in my 30's it's absolutely rediculous and people need to know that this is happening and should at least be able to change tickets and I will still be taking this matter further thanks for spoiling my parents Christmas present very angry customer See More

Went last night with my mother and 11year old daughter. Fabulous show and would highly recommend it. Simple simon was on form and made us laugh the whole way through. I would be concerned if he wasn’t... there though as rest of cast although good didn’t seem to have the same panto wit as in other years. However we thoroughly enjoyed it and well done for the 3d! Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Though £5 for large slush might just sting a few parents! Luckily my daughter was happy with a small and we had own sweets for interval as ice cream also expensive. But going rate in theatre now unfortunately!
Well done sunderland empire. Another good family night out.

Went on the 19th with 3 friends..lights would not go down at all im the first half, and the first half of the show wasnt the best either, complained to staff nothing happened, complained to the manag...er who gave us a card to email a complaint, we go every year but this year was spoilt with lights not going down it was showing all the other distractions.
Also our bags with presents in were taken from us and put in the broom cupboard at the entrance, these were wrapped presents no alcohol, we weren't given a receipt and the cupboard wasnt locked.
Sadly we wont be returning next year.

Can’t fault the staff here tonight - group of 4 watching shrek when the 2 girls next to us obviously had way too much to drink and vomited all along row we were in. The staff were lovely and without b...eing asked not only found us new seats but put us in a private box - fantastic customer service and a huge thank you from us See More

NO UNDER 3s!!!!! Just returned from the theatre after being turned away because my son was under 3 (2yr6m) we booked the tickets for SHREK in December for my sons Christmas present, I rang the the box... office and the theatre to confirm the ticket price for my son and was told both times children over 18m old pay full price, so we purchased 3 tickets costing over £150, we were one of many families to be turned away because the theatre had made a catastrophic mistake, this not only left my son in tears but also left my heavily pregnant wife in tears! I hope all the families who’s day was completely ruined receive some sort of compensation.

Not the best panto this year. Jack and the beanstalk. Previous years have been much better. It was more music and dancing than acting. The jokes were reeled of as part of a stand up show instead of be...ing part of the panto and one joke I'm not sure how it got past the censors. 3d effects were brill but short. Staff not around to give out glasses we had to go find them. See More

Went to the Empire this afternoon to see Flavia and Vincent. Although the show, music, singers and dancers were all good it was spoilt for me because Vincent has hurt his back and wasn't able to danc...e. I booked to watch Flavia dance with Vincent not two 'other' male dancers, even though they were good. Flavia is an amazing dancer but it was her and Vincent i was excited to watch. Disappointed doesn't cover how I'm feeling! See More

We went to see Jack and the beanstalk on Friday, it was the worst panto I have ever seen. Jack had a book at all times on the stage with his lines in. My girls was so disappointed, the acting from Jac...k was terrible, I am going to save my money next time. We have been to every panto for the past 6 years and never had a problem. What a waste of money. I wish I knew how to put a complaint in, as it's so expensive to go to watch someone read their lines from a book. See More

The Empire Theatre is my favourite place to visit in Sunderland. My family and I are regular theatre goers and I feel so lucky to have such a prestigious venue and amazing variety of shows in my homet...own. Very impressed with the new app that allows you to pre-order refreshments to be delivered to your seat. Looking forward to our next show! See More

My wife and I went to see Thriller Live Thursday night and the show was fantastic, the singers, dancers and the band although mostly hidden from the audience were fantastic playing live alnight. The t...heatre staff were absolutely amazing, my wife is disabled and one of the young ladies noticed that we were having difficulties seeing, she spoke to us and then involved the duty manager, Mathew was amazing he thoroughly checked the situation and offered us alternative seat's, which to my astonishment just happened to be in one of the boxes, he even came back at the interval and the end to make sure we were OK and had enjoyed the show, we couldn't thank him enough for turning a potential disaster into an overwhelming success. He has our complete gratitude and we hope to see him again when we are there next. Thanks very much Mathew See More

Took the kids to Sunderland empire theatre today to see Shrek the musical. When we got there the staff on the door said my 2 year old son couldn’t go in as he’s under 3 and they don’t allow children t...hat small in the theatre except for pantomimes. I said it doesn’t say on the website or ticket or at the time of booking that children under 3 are not allowed and he said they’re only allowed in for kids shows. So I said what like SHREK you mean?? He said shrek is NOT for kids!? Another lady comes out and says why don’t you take him into the bar and wait there for the other kids and they would refund me two tickets. So shrek the musical is no place for a child but a BAR is? We would have had to wait in there for 2 and a half hours. We only booked the tickets in the first place for My son as shrek is his absolute favourite I wasn’t going to leave him out! See More

Well!!! After paying £80 for a seat to see Legally blonde for my daughter and I, I have now had to purchase a booster seat for her at £5!! Every other theatre I have visited throughout the world never... charges for a booster seat. So I have effectively paid and extra £5 for my daughter to see a show because she is a child and isn’t tall!! Horrendous See More

Thoroughly disappointed. Went to see the fantastic Mamma Mia show on Friday night-an eagerly anticipated rare night out for 6 hard working mums. The show was fantastic but the experience was ruined b...y the theatre staff in the dress circle- the elderly grey haired lady and a young man who refused to give us his name. From before the show even started they hassled us- telling us off for getting our phones out to check they were on silent, as instructed to by the pre-show announcement. The harassment continued throughout the show, culminating in us being told to sit down and stop dancing during the final song, when the ENTIRE audience were on their feet. The pair of jobsworths clearly took pleasure from telling us off like school children. As intelligent, professional women we found this incredibly patronising, insulting and infuriating. When we asked to speak to the manager to complain, he was every bit as unprofessional as his staff. Have never experienced such apalling customer service before, some staff training is clearly required. Also a reminder to certain members of staff that people pay a lot of money to go to the theatre and ENJOY themselves. These paying customers ultimately pay their wages and should be treated with a bit more respect. See More

I am disgusted with Sunderland empire I booked four tickets as a surprise birthday present for my sister on the. 22 Jan received tickets. Yesterday I received a flyer from Sunderland empire advertisin...g the show on the 15 16 17 march but no mention of the 14th march the night I booked and my tickets confirmed. After a load of hassle and expensive phone calls I still have not got any satisfaction. So no stars for Sunderland empire. See More

Went to see the fantastic Joe McElderry at The Empire Theatre on Thurs 10th August with my husband. He was absolutely fantastic, as always. The staff were very nice and pleasant when asking to check ...the ladies bags for security reasons before entering the theatre. However, the performance was spoilt by the theatre audience. We had a couple of women next to us, one of whom had her mobile phone on the entire time taking photos/video and the flash kept going off. They were also talking and laughing during some of the songs. My husband had it worst as he had another woman in front of him who was also taking photos and her phone constantly had the back of the lady's head in front of her bathed in bright light the entire time, which must have been distracting for her too. I don't have a problem with the good natured heckling but it really spoils the performance with the talking and phone screens flashing and being constantly lit up in the dark auditorium. I wish people would consider their behaviour and how it spoil it for others who also spent a lot on their ticket. See More
