Our need is real. Our future is now. Vote yes to build a prek-6th grade building. Tell the state yes, it is Swanton's turn take advantage of $23M in state funding. Vote yes to save the district $200k in operating costs. Vote yes because to reno/repair our current buildings to state standards it would cost this district over $14 million!

Tomorrow is the day Swanton voters! A YES vote means a preK-6th gr. Building across from the HS creating a campus style district. A yes vote consolidates our buildings from 4 to 2 saving over $200k/yr in current operating expenses. A yes vote means our community will not have to shoulder future expenses to repair and bring to code our current buildings. A yes vote means more opportunities for our youth. A yes vote means saying yes to the state's offer of +60% funding. Votin...g yes will increase your taxes by a net effect of 2.6 mills (refinance combined with this bond request). A Yes means this project makes sense financially for the school district, academically for both today and tomorrow's students and is the best fiscal choice for our tax dollars- not just for today but for decades to come. Our future will be decided tomorrow. Please choose wisely.

The Project: For a net effect of 2.6 mills, (4.4 mills will be the request on the ballot - minus the 1.8 mill pay down of SLS current bonds) a Prek-6th grade building with add ons to the HS to accommodate 7th & 8th grades moving to the HS will be built across from the HS. Millions$$ will be saved , over the next several decades, due to reducing our buildings from 4 to 2. The State is paying +60% of the cost. The district's current buildings need millions$$ in renovations/r...epairs. If the district chose to renovate/repair, they would have to ask the voters for that money. The state will not assist with repairs. The state's list of needed repairs to our current buildings exceeds the cost of Swanton's share of the new building. The project makes sense. It makes sense financially and academically. The state will take the offer off the table this summer. There is no way to know if Swanton will ever again be given this opportunity. In all ways that count, the project is the opportunity of a a lifetime for the Swanton community.

Question: Will the new building include some of the elements of the current middle school? Answer: Yes. There are elements of our current MS that can be saved, refurbished/reused. These include items such as bricks, lockers, and some architectural items. Incorporating the history of the MS will be an important part of the design process of the new prek-6th gr. building

Yard signs are going up today. If you want one, let us know!
