I miss our official home away from home. Did you stay at the Luxor for SILV? What is your favorite memory of this great hotel? One of mine is lining up more than 200 beautiful Supras in the parking lot with the towering pyramid as an incredible background for our Show-and-Shine.
Thanks for the memories!
Reminiscing fond memories. Just went through my On This Day and 7 years ago today was the day after the final Supras Invade Las Vegas (SILV) event that I produc...ed. I founded the event in 1997 as there were no big Supra events west of the Mississippi at that time. From humble beginnings of about 40 Supras the first year, this event grew to draw more than 200 to the Nevada desert on multiple occasions becoming The Largest Supra Event on the Planet. Year after year this event drew many magazine cover quality cars, high horsepower cars, low ET / high MPH cars, daily drivers, and project cars. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met so many incredible people. I am so proud of the work that I put into making the event what it was, though I could not have done it without a LOT of help from some AMAZING people. A huge thanks to Chris, Steve, and James for being my core group that I always knew I could rely on; to the sponsors who helped make the event possible; to Kathy @ the Luxor for always making sure we had the best home away from home we could have ever wanted; to those that brought their Supras from all across the continent; and to the people that flew in from all around the globe to be at the center of the Supra universe, if only for the weekend!
20 years ago today Supras from across the country converged on Las Vegas for the first ever Supras Invade Las Vegas (SILV) event. What started with about 40 Supras quickly grew to see more than 200 Supras gleaming in the desert sun during the Show-and-Shine on multiple occasions. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone that joined us.
On this date in 1997 the annual Supras Invade Las Vegas (SILV) event was founded by Keith H, from Portland Oregon, while in Salt Lake City for the Westerrn Regional S.O.G.I. meet.
While the Supra very likely evolved from the 2000GT, where did the 2000GT start? We may never really know but this is pretty interesting.
