In the house I use to rent before we bought this house, I really didn’t have much room for a Christmas tree. So, I found this tall skinny one, which worked perfectly for my space. I think we will be investing in a much fuller tree at the after Christmas sales. This poor tree looks rather anemic in the large spot we have for it in the new house.
I have been trying to do the weekly prompts from the group Art Journal Prompts (https://www.facebook.com/groups/artjournalprompts) each week. I love doing challenges and prompts because I find that it challenges me to go outside of my comfort zone quite often. The prompt for this page was "opposites". I had seen this quote a while ago and I thought it would fit in with the theme of the prompt. A lot of the time, when I journal it starts with a quote and I work from there. So, this is my take on the "opposites" theme.
I love participating in challenges and weekly prompts! I created this page for the weekly prompt over at Art Journal Junkie https://www.facebook.com/groups/ArtJournalJunkie/ They have started having a weekly prompt on Mondays that consists of a theme and a set of colors. This past Monday the prompt was "Health" and the colors were light orange and silver. This is my take on the prompt. I like how it turned out, I think it's kind of cute!
This was a page that started out badly, I just hated it. So I kept working on it and adding layers until I got this. Only sort of pleased with it, but decided to stop while I was ahead and really messed it up. But, it is a BIG improvement from the original page I started!

Lemon-Basil Garbage Disposal Refreshing Tabs
I always love making my own cleaning and home care products because it’s the only way I know what is in the products I use around my home. I am sensitive to strong chemical based fragrances so I often use essential oils in my products so they have a nice smell. The essential oils don’t seem to bother me as badly, at least most of them don’t.
So, today, I wanted to share with you my recipe for Garbage Disposal Refreshing Tabs. If... you’ve ever had a garbage disposal, you know that sometimes they can stink to high heaven. This recipe leave mine smelling of a really nice combination of lemon and basil.
Here is the simple recipe:
Garbage Disposal Refreshing Tabs
You will need:
2 cups baking soda
1 cup salt
1/3 cup unscented liquid castile soap
20 drops lemon essential oil
10 drops basil essential oil
a couple of ice cube trays
a container to hold the tabs when finished
In a large bowl, whisk together the baking soda and salt. Add the castile soap and essential oils and work into the baking soda with your hands. Add the water a tablespoon at a time, working it in well with your hands. Add water until the baking soda resembles damp sand. It should stick together when pressed tightly. If you should over water it, you can add more baking soda to get the right consistency. Press the mixture very tightly into the hollows of the ice cube trays. Let sit for about 2 hours then turn the tablets out carefully onto a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. Bake sure they are spread out so they dry evenly. Let the tablets dry for 24 hours and then store in an airtight container.
To Use the Garbage Disposal Refreshing Tabs
Place 1-2 tabs into the garbage disposal along with about 1 cup of vinegar. Put the stopper in and let bubble for several minutes. Unplug the stopper and run hot water down the drain while you run the garbage disposal.
