We had a great summer in the bandstand last year and one of the highlights was getting Swanage singing for Make Music Day UK. We will be back at the bandstand this summer and have a fund raising concert in support of the restoration of the bandstand planned for 30th June in the Methodist Church. Check out the website for dates and more info.
Great success for a young Purbeck musician
Purbeck Art Weeks would like to congratulate Sally Aiko Dando for winning the Rotary Wessex District Finals Young Musician Competition on Sunday. This is the f...irst time that a young musician from Purbeck has won this stage. Fresh from her success on the violin she then delighted the audience at the first Chamber Music in Purbeck Houses concerts of the season playing the piano. Best Wishes Sally and thank you for playing for us.
Here's a challenge for anyone who feels the New Year is beckoning with more practice!
Its here! The 100 day Practice Challenge. Its as simple as it sounds, Blog, Vlog, add media all about what you are practicing, how you are practicing, e...ncouragement and any practice break humour that you find helps your routine.
You can start whenever you like: the challenge is 100 days of practice, whether that is 100 1 minute sessions or 100 1 hour sessions it doesn't matter it really is up to you!
When possible, let the community know what you are doing, are you learning scales for a grade exam, or aiming to perfect your technique with some time with a tutor book? Its totally up to you, let us know what you are doing and how its going.
Try to blog something each day no matter how much playing you have done and let us know about what target you have set yourself in 100 days. Hopefully with a thriving community we can encourage people to reach their dream goals and hit their targets as musicians!
I hope you enjoy the challenge and just spending that bit more quality time on our musical instruments!
Celebrate the Joy of Christmas with the Swanage Town Band at the Swanage Methodist Church on Wednesday 13th December at 7.30pm. This FREE event has become a very popular fixture in Swanage’s Christmas Calendar, with the band playing a selection of well-known tunes and seasonal music interspersed with plenty of carols where audience participation is positively encouraged!
Good luck everyone for Saturday night.
Great concert coming up in Swanage on Saturday 2nd December in St Mary's. PAW are really pleased to be able to support Lydia Bennett through the John Flower Bu...rsary scheme and are really looking forward to hearing her play Vivaldi's Bassoon Concerto as part of the Purbeck Arts Choir concert.
We'll be there too - playing some of Eric's favourite melodies!
We are really looking forward to "Eric's Extravaganza" tomorrow night in St Mary's Church. It is going to be a great celebration of all things Eric! The churc...h will be bursting at the seams and we are going to have a great evening.
Thanks to our fabulous Jay Buckle and everyone else involved for organising this event.
Great news that the Swanage Town Council are backing the restoration of the historic bandstand. Alan Houghton and his team have worked tirelessly all summer to raise funds through pledges and we are delighted that thanks to the generosity of our summer bandstand audiences we can pledge £600 to the appeal. We will also be performing a fund-raising concert for the bandstand in early 2018!
FRIENDS OF SWANAGE BANDSTAND
We have now passed another milestone in our campaign to restore the bandstand, which is that we now have the support of our Town C...ouncil. They have pledged the sum of Fifty Thousand Pounds, which makes our running total of Pledges to EIGHTY TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE POUNDS. But we are now left to raise the rest needed, which as a guide figure is One hundred and sixty thousand. We as a Town always rally round when needed, and now we need you to help raise funds in any way you can.
As a group,we are now making our application for Charity Status, and that means if people who donate pay tax and they are prepared to gift aid it can mean an extra 25% added to that amount. We are getting ready to call in some of the pledges from people who can't gift aid. We will ask all people to make all payable toFRIENDS OF SWANAGE BANDSTAND and ask for a stamped addressed envelope so we send a receipt for all recorded donations, all will be done in triplicate so a proper paper trail is made. Don't forget to visit our website www.friendsofswanagebandstand.co.uk.
Thank you all, you've all been fantastic.Alan
