During our past conference, we had the honour of having Chibi Taiko as one of our performing groups! Taiko is a an ancient Japanese form of percussion using large drums.
As the first children’s taiko ensemble in Canada, Chibi Taiko has the goal of spreading the unique and dynamic performing art on to the next generation of Asian Canadians. The group’s philosophy emphasizes cooperation, leadership, responsibility, and spirituality in addition to the physical and musical discipline needed to build a cohesive and dynamic taiko ensemble.

This past year, #REGENERATE speaker Tienlan Sun shared his ideas on how DIY projects can be a great platform for community bonding and interaction. In his talk, he describes the main components to transforming a successful DIY project into a platform for community building.
In May of 2015, TEDxKids@BC speaker, Wesley, learned of the harsh reality of global food and water shortages; and the effects it had on millions around the world. He took matters into his own hands and started his a movement, the 5×5 Project.
Through his project, Wesley challenges the notion that experience, adulthood, and education are needed to identify and solve an issue. He wishes for all youth to realize the impacts they can have on their own communities!
"It is true that our generation has challenges to grapple with, but as of right now, the world is only giving us permission to feel ashamed of what we photograph. They say we are lazy, self entitled narcissists, and yet, we are expected to save the future."
This past conference, two of our #REGENERATE speakers spoke about the stigma and mischaracterizations surrounding millennials, and how millennials should be seen as more than just a compartmentalized generation. Check out Andrew and Emma's talk below!
Despite an increase in women getting degrees in STEM fields, it's estimated that woman only compose 22% of STEM related workforces. Its time that we call for a paradigm shift, and change our status quo. This year, one of our REGENERATE speakers, Rebecca, gave a talk about bringing diversity to STEM workforces, and provided insight on how to break the glass ceiling.
One of our performers this year, Jie, was surprised to witness the ability of young kids to rapidly learn new things by practicing mindfulness - through moving their body and exploring their senses. Since then, Jie has been convinced that mindfulness through yoga is one of the best ways to find inner peace. Check out her performance now!
All of us live in a fast paced society that is constantly focusing on the future; how often do we really stop and think about the present? TEDxkids@BC speaker Joyce Zhu challenges people to think about the importance of the present, and the repercussions of neglecting it. Check out her talk below!
This year, one of our youngest speakers, Nicole, spoke about improving the relationship between autistic and non-autistic children. She hopes to foster a society that understands the struggles and hardships that autistic children endure, and work towards positive communication.
TEDxKids@BC volunteers are passionate, dedicated, and some might even say crazy. Volunteers have a unique opportunity to engage in areas and roles that interest them and receive mentoring from peers and professionals. Our volunteers range for young kids to youth kids to adult kids.
