Today we mourn the loss of San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. His preservation of SRO hotels and affordable housing in the city made him an ally to low-income and homeless individuals as well as local affordable housing providers. His long-time support and advocacy for our tenants and our mission to end tenant displacement will not be forgotten. We send our deepest condolences to his family.

Yesterday we celebrated the official opening of the National and Winton Hotels which together offer 195 units of supportive housing to chronically homeless adults. These units are not just opportunities to end homelessness, but permanent homes for individuals like Army Veteran Joseph Brown.
Mr. Brown shared his story in front of THC staff and community supporters, telling all that “There is a difference between homeless and hopeless. Living here is not being hopeless.” We are proud to offer Mr. Brown and over 2,500 other individuals a place to call home in San Francisco.
Re-entry housing programs such as those operated by our Transitional Housing Department are essential in helping criminal justice-involved adults avoid homelessness and get back on their feet.
