So, there is some good news to share in regards to our drought. Havre is currently having it's snowiest winter on record (136 years of data). That will be goo...d for runoff in the Milk River Basin. The snowpack has really helped show some improvements in the drought monitor. Areas east of Glasgow to ND are still below normal for the water year (starting Oct 1st).

As snow wraps up across portions of northeast Montana today, it is already time to start thinking about the next storm, which may approach as early as this week...end. Early suggestions are that the best chances will occur Saturday night. The best chances of seeing new accumulations look to be across SW. Phillips, Petroleum, and W. Garfield Counties. That does not mean that snow will not occur further northeast, it simply means that chances are lower right now. In any case, do look for a return to Arctic temperatures returning to the region behind that system on Sunday and continuing into early next week.

With 2 to 4 inches of snow expected across much of northeast Montana Wednesday and Thursday, roads will once again become snow covered and slippery, and travel ...may become difficult. Winds gusting from 20 to 30 mph causing reduced visibility will be a concern, especially Thursday after the snow has fallen.

With these concerns, most of the area is under a Winter Weather Advisory. This begins at 8 AM MST Wednesday morning and ends at 8 AM MST Thursday morning for Daniels, Sheridan, northern Valley, and northern Phillips counties. It starts a little later for areas further south, starting at 2 PM MST Wednesday and lasting until 11 AM MST Thursday morning.
