Hubs and I have lived here for 7.5 years...just one regret...we didn't move here sooner. Sense of community, and looking out for each other. The best food in downtown and vicinity you've ever eaten... in your life. Good people, good residents, and CONSISTENTLY has been on various "best places to raise your kids" lists. So much to do, not only in the vicinity, but perfectly situated between Kings Dominion and Richmond. What more could you ask for? They don't call it the Center of the Universe for nothing! See More

I moved here in July of 2016. I have come here to visit on and off for decades. My Mom moved in town many years ago now and then to the nursing home here as well. I have come to Ashland Coffee and ...Tea for decades and thought it the closest to the old style Folk coffee houses in New York State that I used to frequent and eventually work in a newly graduate. The small town feel and the way that this has been preserved despite changes around the core of the town, is why I moved here in the first place. I love the old and small town feel. I hate that there maybe a high speed rail bypass right next to my mid century house, or that the middle of the town may be defaced for ever by a HUGE new train station and new rail landings. I hope that the town fathers, the urban and regional planners will have dumped this idea of a high speed rail and or changing the quaint nature of this historic rail town.

Ashland used to be a larger community of town and rural residents. Today, the town council has alienated those very families who helped build the town. Self absorbed, and obsessed with Center Street, ...they underhandedly pushed for a rail bypass around the town through 24 homes of its neighbors. Pathetic. See More

I have traveled through Ashland 100's of times, but always down Rt. 1. A friend of mine that lives in Asland had lost her doggie-"Ella". My friend and her husband (a postman) could not leave work, a...s Ella was spotted in town. A group of friends, neighbors and family went out looking. My son and I on the way home to Fredericksburg decided to stop and look for ELLA. We walked and rode through town and everyone that we came in contact were just the most friendly folks. They ALL wanted to help. Ella was found. She was scared and hungry, but o. K. We like Ashland & everyone to stop and walk around. There is a hidden Treasure of a town tucked away See More

We were at Ashland, Va, to attend the Strawberry Fare. It was a beautiful day with the sun rays beaming down. We enjoyed sitting at the umbrella table on the campus where we could listen to the live m...usic.
We discovered the event online as we were deciding what activities were available. Luckily, this was on the list. I loved how the town has a unique hometown feeling with the sounds of the train passing on the tracks. It reminded me of my hometown and how my father worked to record the trains. We didn't eat anywhere, but the descriptions with the local restaurants made me think that we need to try them out eventually.

I've been here a little over a year and I am in love with Ashland and all the people I've met. The parade today was so great! We truly enjoyed it all and I thank everyone involved for all their hard w...ork in putting on one of the best parades I've ever seen! It had everything and everyone and even the rain held off! And the reopening of the theater is wonderful! Our 4-yr old granddaughter had her picture taken with Santa at the theater, too! Ashland is such a beautiful, clean, well-kept, charming town and I don't know why anyone would want to change a thing about it. I love it just the way it is! I don't want to see it be like any place else. There is only one "center of the universe" and you can't improve on perfection! See More

Very friendly and quaint little town. Love the history and beautiful homes. The strawberry festival is the first Saturday of June each year and is one of my favorite things to do in Ashland.

I love it here. Diverse community, eclectic, creative, kind, and walkable. Don't come here, though. Keep this place a secret and don't spoil it by making it hip! Sshhhhhh! 😎

My parents and i have lived here since summer 2012. We LOOOVE ashland. The character is out of this world, the local high school (Patrick Henry) is amazing (in my opinion, i went there for 3 years) an...d the town really trues to get the community involved in things like the Chalk Walk and the Railroad Run. Great town. See More

A town that depends on the county surrounding it but only considers its own priorities.

I grew up in Hanover and just opened a business May 1st in Ashland! Ashland has a great small town atmosphere, plus it is a Railroad town. I could not ask for a better place for my business.

Lived here all my life, it has it's pros and cons...nothing much to write home about... i love the fact that it is peaceful, and quiet, but at times and on certain part of the tracks "you need to know... you place, and where you belong" We still live in that kinda world. #NOWHATIMEAN See More

At the next Town Council meeting on June 5th, Town Council will vote on the Town's annual budget, which will include debt service for a new Town Hall. The decision to issue debt for this legacy project was not taken lightly. Over the last two years, Councilmemebers and Town staff thoroughly evaluated the decision to finance the construction of a new Town Hall. If you would like to learn more about what led to the decision to finance construction of a new Town Hall, please watch the video. The existing facility analysis mentioned in the video is also available at the project website http://ashlandtownhall.wixsite.com/home.
