"The Safe Campus Act would mandate that college administrations no longer be permitted to investigate claims of sexual assault within the college community, unless the accuser first filed an official report with the local police force. This legislation would be devastating to survivors everywhere, but particularly on a campus like mine where there are very few resources available to survivors outside of those provided by the college."

Infuriated and flabbergasted that this is actually an article.

In August 2012, two rapes by unknown assailants were reported at Harvard University, sending the school into crisis. Police cruisers idled around the campus; uniformed and plainclothes officers came out in force. Students were advised not to walk alone. A member of the undergraduate council called f…

"To be blunt: we are outraged. We are disappointed. But the one thing we are not is surprised."

“After all of this effort and trying to go through the proper channels, Berkeley has ultimately come up with no response. I’ve seen sexual harassers get slaps on the wrist before. This isn’t even a slap on the wrist.” —Joan Schmelz, former chair of the American Astronomical Society’s Committee onRea…

"We are not and should not become the national model — every campus is distinct, with diverse, nuanced challenges and resources. But we can become collective leaders in learning by quieting our PR megaphones and listening to survivors — those true leaders who have bravely brought this issue to the forefront and who should be celebrated."

The University of California, the leading public university system in the country, has an ego problem. Mired in allegations of mishandled sexual violence reports, federal Title IX complaints and investigations by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, the university is actively…

"It’s particularly interesting that throughout the Title IX complaint, nearly all of the survivors who went through the reporting process cited issues with the university’s lead sexual assault investigator, Denise Oldham, of the office for the prevention of harassment and discrimination. Students have voiced concerns about her conduct for over a year, including when she lied to a Los Angeles Times journalist about discouraging survivors from reporting and saying, “We see over 500 cases every year but are only able to seek formal disciplinary resolutions in two cases the previous year.”

In what other occupation could you lie to a journalist from a major publication and still remain employed?"

So after sexual assault survivors filed federal Title IX and Clery Act complaints against UC Berkeley for sweeping cases under the rug to the U.S. Department of Education, spearheaded state and federal legislation and created a national dialogue about campus sexual assault, how does UC Berkeley resp…
