Happy new year from USGO! Here's an interesting piece on economic geography as some New Year's Eve food for thought: https://www.nytimes.com/…/the-gamblers-ruin-of-small-cities…
Merry Christmas to all from all of us at USGO and the International Geography Bee! If you want a geographic twist to your Yuletide, track Santa's flight around the world, courtesy of NORAD! https://www.noradsanta.org/
A list of students attending the inaugural 2018 International Geography Bee World Championships is now being maintained here on the IGB website. Check and see who's coming to Berlin next July, and hope you can join us too! http://www.internationalgeographybee.com/world-championshi…/
Welcome to a new competition year of the US Geography Olympiad! We're excited to begin our 6th year overall, with some new changes in store (and in particular, the inaugural 2018 World Championships of our sister competition, the International Geography Bee in Berlin on July 11-17, 2018!) See www.internationalgeographybee.com for full details on that and our post at http://www.geographyolympiad.com/2017-2018-competition-yea…/ for the full start-of-year announcement for USGO.
Congratulations to Team USA for finishing 3rd at the 2017 International Geography Olympiad in Belgrade! USA's highest finish to date was powered by a Gold medal-winning performance by Martin Rakowszczyk from Rockville, MD, and Silver medals from AJ Manning (Bartow, FL), Kyle Yu (Westlake, OH) and Jakob Myers (Naperville, IL). Thanks for making America proud!
"Don't know much about geography..." So goes the song lyric over the radio in my hotel in the Marais district in Paris as I sit here writing next year's USGO National Qualifying Exams... Hope you're having a great summer and see you in the fall for a new year of the US Geography Olympiad and the International Geography Bee!
Have a look at this website for various geography resources, especially if you're planning on roadtripping this spring or summer.
