VERGE: A Short History
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT LAST NIGHT!!!!!! In case you missed it here's a little YURT propaganda to take you into the weekend!
Shout out to the Sac Open Studios cover artist Kari Sullivan and our event sponsors! We couldn't put on Sac Open Studios without your support! Thank you: Blick Art Materials, University Art, Inside Publications, Sacramento365, Capital Public Radio, Warehouse Artist Lofts, WAL Public Market, Hacker Lab, Chalk It Up #grabtheguide and start planning your self-guided tour.

#thirdthursday is (almost) here!

We have two events tomorrow at Verge: our monthly artist salon Art in the Age of Instragram and Movies on the Verge: "Onibaba"

Join us at 5:30pm in Verge's main gallery as we discuss Art in the Age of Instagram. Art galleries and museums are increasingly capitalizing on the use of Instagram to promote their shows and exhibitions. Is this marketing tool making art more accessible to the masses or is it a cheap gimmick that detracts from the mea...ning of the artwork displayed?

Then at 7:30 pm for #moviesontheverge, we've teamed up with Becky Grunewald, chef Debbie Chang of Kasbah and Sawako Amo of Temple KUKURI to bring you a special guest-curated program along with Japanese small bites and drinks.

Kaneto Shindo's chilling folktale "Onibaba" is a singular cinematic experience. This 1964 black-and-white Japanese film is driven by primal emotions, dark eroticism, a frenzied score by Hikaru Hayashi, and stunning images both lyrical and macabre.

Purchase tickets online at or at the door.

Thirteen days until regular registration for Sac Open Studios closes! We continue our regularly scheduled programming to introduce you to artists that work under our roof here at Verge Center for the Arts. Remember, all emerging and established artists are invited to participate in Sac Open Studios! Visit: to find out how.

Today's Verge spotlight in on Laurelin Gilmore. Laurelin creates alternative worlds through pai...ntings, illustrations, and sculptures that push and pull between realism, surrealism, and fantasy. Her work fuses the imaginary with the real and bridges binaries. While her subject matter is vast and varied, the human figure is always her touchstone. Explore Laurelin’s expert brushwork and imaginative worlds at Sac Open Studios this fall! Until then, visit:

Thank you Laurelin for supporting #sacopenstudios!
