Don't Worry, Worship

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. (Psalm 95:6-7 NIV)

Because God is infinite, and we are limited in our ability to understand Him fully, He describes Himself with images that we can understand. One of those is the shepherd. As the shepherds of Israel were faithful to care for their flocks and provide for them and protect them, so G...od would faithfully care for the needs of His people. Sheep have no worries; they just follow the shepherd and they possess all they need.

It is reassuring to know that the Lord is your great shepherd. He knows what you need, and He is capable of providing it for you. You may be facing some situations in your marriage, or your finances or other areas of your life that are troubling and even overwhelming. Know that you are firmly positioned under the care of God, your maker, and shepherd. With a surge of faith, replace your worry today with worship.

Lord, I will…

The Word Of God Goes Deep

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

The centuries have produced some great works of literature that are still recognized today as brilliant. The Bible, however, isn't one of them. Actually, the poetic books, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon are of...ten studied on secular campuses for their literary style and prose. But the Bible is far more than classical literature. It is living, life-giving, and life transforming. Shakspere might connect with the soul, but the Word of God connects spirit, soul, and body to the power of Almighty God.

Like the scalpel in the hands of a surgeon allows him to go deep into a patient to access otherwise hidden organs, so God's Word, sharp and double-edged, penetrates deep into your soul everytime you read it. Like light, it shines into the dark and hidden places. Like a sword, it separates what is Spirit and what is flesh in your heart. Everytime you interact with God's Word, the Holy Spirit breathes life into it and into you. When it comes to the Bible, read it, believe it, act on it, speak it, and share it. It is life to you.

Lord, your Word is my...

We Know More When We Don't Know It All

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

You have no doubt heard the term; less is more. It suggests that there is great value in simplicity. A paragraph that communicates a thought with fewer words has a more significant effect on the reader than one with much detail to process. Music, planning, budgeting each have greater influence and appreciation where less is more. We are encouraged in the book of Proverbs to gain more knowledge and understanding. But when can too much knowledge actually be less knowledge?

More knowledge becomes less when we begin to reason and act as though we know more than God. Somewhere in our youthfulness, we develop an all-knowing attitude. Ever had a parent or peers growing up accuse you of being a know-it-all? Though we might chalk it up to youthful immaturity, it is actually very easy to carry that attitude into adulthood in response to God's commands and will. At any point that we believe we know more or better than God, we display youthful arrogance. When it comes to walking in true wisdom, the less you know, the higher the wisdom of God can be displayed through you. You will know more when you humbly know less.

Lord, your wisdom is...

His Love Endures

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

During the course of our lives, we will experience separation. It takes place with family, childhood friends, vocations, and even familiar locations over time. Even hardships such as Paul lists create separation. The tribulations and hardships that life brings can separate us from people we care about, careers w...e’ve invested years in creating. We may become separated from our dreams and ambitions by the weight of distress. Life’s challenges create seasons of separation.

Whatever level of separation life has created, you have one steadfast truth to base hope on today. The love of Jesus Christ will always be with you. There is nothing that can or will ever happen to you, through you, or around you that will separate you from the love of Jesus Christ. His suffering and death for you is the manifestation of the depth of His love for you. Having gone to that extent to assure you of His love, you can be assured that whatever today holds; you’re still held up and held onto by the undying, unchanging, and unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

Lord, your love for me leaves me…

Be Still And He Will

Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Our present-day culture isn’t geared for being still. Everything and everyone around us are in constant motion, and we are easily swept up in the currents of activity. And much of our energy is vested in advancement, success, and making things happen for our good. We seem set on fixing everything that gets in the way. During the day... we’re in a flurry of anxious activity, attempting to make life work. And at night, our sleep is even restless with anxiety. We don’t do “still” well.

To be still as God commands it is to trust in Him. It is to remember that He is God and has all power, authority, and dominion throughout all the heavens and earth. The activity of man can never replace the authority of God over His creation. Whatever you find yourself striving for in your life right now, you can trust God to provide and fulfill it. And do so in a far greater way than your worry, work or warring can ever do. Simply do what He gives you to do, and be still, and He will rise in your situation and make His glory known.

Lord, I will be still and...

Emptied To Be Filled

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth....
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled

When Jesus went public with His ministry, He turned everyone's world upside down. The teachings of Jesus challenged everything that those He walked among has ever been taught and believed. Nowhere was this more evident than in this passage. They had always associated the blessings of God with wealth. But in these verses, Jesus states that true happiness comes from being completely empty of worldliness and self-reliance. How does this bring happiness?

We are all guilty of filling our lives with things that we desire, or believe we need. Relationships, pursuits in life, finances, and so much more. Jesus understands that the more we fill our lives with, the less room we have for Him and His blessings. So true joy, peace, and fulfillment translated "happiness", comes by making room for Jesus to occupy our lives. When we empty ourselves of our pursuits, pride, and passions, He can fill us with His presence, peace, power, and provision. In what way do you need to empty yourself to make more room for Jesus today?

Lord, I will empty myself by...

Every Piece Fits Perfectly

Psalm 119:6-7 Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.

I am not much of a puzzle person, mainly because it's a long and tedious process to complete the whole picture, and I just don't have it in me. But I do know that every piece is perfectly designed to fit together, in its own individual spot. And when each piece comes together with ...the others, it makes a complete picture. It is imperative that each piece is properly placed.

God's precepts are each like a piece to a puzzle. They are designed to fit together and make our lives complete by His design. The commandments of God for our lives are not meant to limit our lives one iota. On the contrary, they are the pieces that make it all come together. The Psalmist was beginning to realize that as he learned the commands, he could rejoice, his life was coming together perfectly. Don't fear or resent God's commands, know them and live them. As you do, you'll begin to see the pieces of your life, such as relationships, finances, your soul and your future come together and fit perfectly into God's design.

Lord, your righteous rules are my...

The Delight Is In The Details

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.” Psalms 37:23–24

In the world, there are detail people, and then there’s everyone else. No matter which one you might be, details are important. Projects at work have a desired outcome. Steps must be outlined, appropriate team members assembled, and budgets established. Your day is... made up of many details, from to-do-lists, appointments, and destinations. It’s attention to the details that lead to the desired outcome.

Your life consists of many details, such as your marriage, relationships, career, finances, children, health, your future and so much more. The details of your life can overwhelm, discourage and deter you, but they are the very delight of your heavenly Father. God has a desired outcome for you, it's his preordained purpose and plan for your life. You are assured that He is intimately involved in every detail today. That means you aren’t to worry and stress over the details, He is directing you each step through every detail. Delight the Lord today by depending on Him.

Lord, today I will…

Your Call

2 Timothy 1:9 ...who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

Did you catch what this verse says concerning you? You have been given a calling from God. You've heard of missionaries, or pastors being "called," but you may have never considered that you to are called by God as well. To be called is to be appointed explicitly for a purpose of Go...d's choosing. With your calling comes the grace of God equipping you for that purpose.

Your qualifications for this God's calling are not in yourself but in Christ Jesus. Gloriously saved by His grace, nothing you have ever done in the past can disqualify you. Your life has been redeemed for a great purpose. And by His grace, He has equipped you with everything necessary to fulfill your calling. There are people the Lord has purposed for you to love, serve and share Him with. And He has called you to a life of purpose far greater than just living to maintain your day to day existence, there are things beating in your heart drawing you to your calling. Live, think and act called today.

Lord, your calling on my life is...
