With a change atop the leaderboard, Friday's final day of the American Bass Anglers Military Championship at Lake Hartwell and Green Pond Landing & Event Center should be lots of fun! Launching at safelight and weighing in at 2:30pm. Make plans to attend!
Oleen & Oleen Move up to Lead Spot at Military Team Event
Kevin Oleen & Kyle Oleen are in first place with 30.64 pounds after Day Two of the ABA Military Team B...ass Tournament at Lake Hartwell. They head into the final day with a 3.77 pound lead. “We appreciate ABA hosting this event. We’ve fished it for the past 15 years and this is the first time we’ve led it. We would prefer sunshine instead of clouds going into tomorrow. Our fish seem to like it sunny versus overcast and we are using multiple baits throughout the day to catch our fish,” said Kevin Oleen.
The team of Jonathan Lee & Travis Hummel Moved into the second place spot after Day Two with a total of 26.87 pounds, including the day’s 5.17 pound Big Bass. “We just seem to be getting lucky and getting the right fish. There are other anglers fishing the same areas that we are. I just think we are doing a little something different,” said Lee.

2017 Military Team Bass Tournament is Right Around the Corner
The 2017 Military Team Bass Tournament, presented by American Bass Anglers and hosted by the Ander...son County, SC and the Anderson Convention & Visitors Bureau, is coming up on May 9-12, 2017 at Green Pond Landing and Event Center on Lake Hartwell in Anderson, SC. Members of the United States Armed Forces from all over the country will make the drive to compete in the 2017 event at Lake Hartwell. The Military Team Bass Fishing Tournament began in 1991 as a way to promote fishing and camaraderie among all branches of the military. In 1975, ABA began as the Military Bass Anglers Association, an organization dedicated to providing bass anglers in the military an opportunity to compete in tournaments with other military members. In 2000, Morris Sheehan, a life member who retired from the U.S. Army, bought MBAA, renamed it American Bass Anglers Inc., and relocated it to Athens, Ala.
“I think that the anglers will more than enjoy what the Anderson County area has to offer. The fishing at Lake Hartwell has steadily improved over the past few years and should produce some good bags of fish during the 2017 event. I look forward to seeing all of our past competitors, as well as, some new competitors at Lake Hartwell,” said Morris Sheehan, president of American Bass Anglers.
Since Lake Hartwell sits on the South Carolina-Georgia line, anglers can fish the lake with a license from either state. For Anderson County area information, call the Anderson County Convention & Visitors Bureau at (864) 716-3660 or visit www.andersoncountysc.org .
