Dear Facebook friends and followers,

I am running for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Bill Posey in Florida's 8th Congressional District this November. I am humbly asking Democratic party leaders and activists for donations so I can afford the exorbitant Florida state filing fee of more than $10,000 by the April 24 deadline.

As a first-generation Moroccan-American raised on Florida's Gold Coast, I have worked in a number of occupations: as a medical account representative, a public school language interpreter, a restaurant server, and a loss mitigation specialist. Throughout it all, I have found strength from connecting with my fellow Americans and empathizing with people's daily struggles.

My desire to serve in Congress is based on a broad range of goals: implementing universal health care, building new infrastructure, helping our farmers make agriculture more sustainable, increasing salaries and resources for our teachers, boosting the national minimum wage, and relying upon science to fight climate change.

Furthermore, I believe my candidacy can flip a Republican-skewing district when residents of Brevard, Indian River, and Orange Counties see they can relate to me as someone who came from humble beginnings and embraced American society as I worked to become a naturalized citizen. Bill Posey has neglected his constituents, remaining out-of-touch with their needs while making his presence scarce within our district.

I invite you to contribute to my campaign for a more inclusive, self-sufficient national future. Please visit my campaign site, and invite your friends, neighbors, and family members to do the same:

Hicham Ammi
