I want to congratulate Linea Palmisano, Ward 13's new council member. It was a very competitive race and the final counting of the votes this morning shows that Linea won by 324 votes from a total of over 10,000 cast. Ward 13 always has great voter turnout and we can be proud of our collective civic action. A Council Member is most successful through active partnerships with those they represent. Council Member-elect Palmisano can count on me to be one of those who will work ...with her to help make our ward and city even better.
My thanks to all the candidates for their efforts. Council Member-elect Palmisano, Missy Durant and Bob Reuer all worked hard to bring to light issues that mattered to them and those they connected with in our community. It is not easy to run for public office. They should all be commended for their commitment to make our city a better place to live and work.
I am so grateful for the support from my campaign team and the community. I was able to run for office because of so many that supported me, especially my wife Karen. My campaign was a true grassroots effort, with support from Ward 13 residents in all stages of life: retirees, parents, business owners, first-time homeowners and renters, students, and even a few future voters! The time and energy that my team spent is invaluable to me and I truly hope they do not feel that their efforts were in vain. Together we ran an excellent, issues-oriented campaign. We made a compelling case, one door knock at a time.
There is still so much more work to be done in Southwest Minneapolis, the City and our region. I will continue to do what I love to do – work with others to improve our community for everyone.
The polls have closed and now we wait. We ran a strong race with a focus on the issues that matter to you. This race is a true test of ranked choice voting and I’m happy that fine candidates ran in Ward 13.
I am very proud that this campaign has been about listening and leading with the issues important to Ward 13 residents. A big thank you to all of my volunteers and supporters. You gave your time, energy and your hearts to this campaign. I couldn’t have done it without you.... My biggest thanks to Karen, my wife, for her unwavering support and hours on the campaign trail with me. I couldn’t have done it without you. For this, I am eternally grateful.
My thanks to Missy Durant, Linea Palmisano, and Bob Reuer and their teams for a spirited and vigorous campaign season. I believe that the competition made the race for Ward 13 better. Each of these folks have worked hard for the community and I expect they will continue that into the future, whatever the role.
So we continue to wait, and will share the news as soon as we have it.
Tuesday, November 5 is the big day for Team Perry. The Ward 13 race is a very close one, and EVERY vote counts.
We pulled out all the stops to reach as many voters as possible, talking about the issues that matter to you. And people are taking note. Last week's Star Tribune endorsement was the icing on the cake. And winning this race will be the cherry on top.
TOMORROW, don't forget to:...
1. Get out and vote! Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Find your polling place here: http://vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/where-to-vote
2. Remind your partner, friends and neighbors to vote.
3. If someone needs a ride to their voting location, let them know we are happy to help. (Contact: Jen Borger at 612-860-2444)
Thank you for your support. It means the world, and I couldn’t have come this far without you. And we can’t win the race without each and every supporter making it to the polls.
