I'm hungry. I'm on my car. So much. I'm I'm gonna jump in real quick. Good morning WBTV on Facebook If you are just joining us on live stream, you're likely waking up this morning and a lot of breaking news overnight to get to gonna give you an update on that in just a moment for now, Take a look at this. On my door. Good morning again to everyone joining us live on Facebook this morning and we just had a live picture on our television station, WBTV News Channel three, and that is the reason for me stepping away for a moment, but I wanna bring you now an update from the scene. It has been developing overnight since just after midnight actually and things have calmed down a bit, but it has been hectic chaotic, violent and devastating. People involved basics right off the top two people have been killed that we know of another seven seriously injured and that number is likely rising seven others injured by gunshots. I should say, and then another five were injured by cars and vehicles in the aftermath of the situation as they were trying to get away. So to take you through what we learn from police, they first got. About a pedestrian that was struck here on Beatty's Ford Road. This is just West of Uptown Charlotte around midnight. It was just after midnight. They got that call. They came out to the scene and they saw a hundreds of people filling these streets. The people out here tell me that they've been out here all weekend celebrating Juneteenth, which is a celebration of the end of slavery in this country. They said that all weekend the celebrations have been lively. They've been positive. They've been parades and. People we're still out here last night when a pedestrian was hit by a car when police arrived here, they tell us shortly after gunshots rang out and we've learned from them that two of the people that were here a part of that celebration have lost their lives. Another seven people were hit seriously injured. We've learned from me at least five of them are in life threatening conditions. so the numbers that we're reporting out to you. This morning are the official numbers. From police, but they say hey, as this continues and develops those numbers could rise. they could change. We'll bring you updates on exactly what those numbers are following the gunshots ringing out, though more violence and more people injured because all of the people that were gathered here heard those shots go off. We just spoke with two men who were out here this weekend, they said. It's a great celebration until they heard those shots and one man said. Never in his life has he had to fear. Life and get down on the ground, but that's what he had to do last night. He got down on the ground to try and avoid where the shots were coming from TV tell us they have evidence multiple shooters that man as well as other witnesses tell us evidence of multiple shooters in this area and the shooters were firing shots. People got down on the ground. People were also driving away and in that process, five additional people were hit and injured. The cars that we're driving away the vehicles involved in this and so following that police were working to find out exactly who did this who was involved in this and there's still working on that right now, you can see behind me. There's obviously crime scene tape and then Taylor Simpson. Our photo journalist, is panning over to show you some of the other police vehicles. There's a police truck multiple officers. Still standing by they've been putting down evidence markers searching the parking lot with flashlights. It's another thing about this scene Is it extends for about a city block actually a bit more than that. I'm looking now just at the other end Lasalle Street. If you're familiar with this area in Charlotte goes from about that area down to around Catherine Simmons Avenue on Beatty's Ford very popular well traveled road, obviously was full of hundreds of people just this morning and Been cleared out with crime scene tape blocking things off as people are still investigating another piece of this that is important to remember is this is a sensational story. chaotic hectic scene, multiple people killed, but each of those people killed are connected to families and this morning myself and Taylor who's been on the scene since this all started have seen those families. we've seen them crying. We've seen them screaming. We've seen them wretched over losing their children. We saw one mother screaming trying to get to. To see her baby, she doesn't know what happened. She just knows that there's an update that her child is gone and because of senseless violence, the other witnesses that we've spoken to who've lived in this neighborhood for their whole lives, said this. this is senseless. It is unacceptable that a positive celebration for a Mass group of people could turn into such devastation. Another witness. I just spoke to said yesterday was Father's Day. This happened in the early hours of Father's Day and we heard from them as well that you know fathers are gonna have to wake up this morning without their children and a piece that we've heard both from police and from witnesses who've been out here is that they want to know who was involved in this to bring them to Justice. There's a. Between all of the people that were gathered and the police they recognized and say there have been protests. there have been riots, but ultimately in this case we just want Justice for the lives that have been lost and the multiple people involved in sentence senseless violence that brought that about. and so police say they're working overnight throughout the night into the morning as light is now breaking on this Monday morning to try. Learn anything they can about what happened, but they also say a lot of you all watching this likely no more about what happened than they do and can be a part of bringing Justice to those families. They want you to give them a call. Crime Stoppers is one of the numbers you can call CMPD Charlotte-mecklenburg police here in Charlotte obviously spoke with another woman who said that Justice is vital in. You need that to move on you need that to heal. you need that to be able to process the loss of life, but she didn't want to lose sight of the fact that this began as a celebration of something really beautiful, she said. We're out here celebrating our blackness our black skin. We are embracing that and loving that and wanting to share that celebration with as many people as possible And she made it clear. she didn't want that to be overshadowed. So I wanna mention that here and be clear that this was something that was really beautiful for the community that again has turned. Devastating and there is no one tonight and this morning that is waking up able to feel positive about any part of this because we have lives lost others currently fighting for their life in the hospital struggling on injuries that are life-threatening we've heard from medic and that struggle is going to continue on into the rest of the day. For now, I'm going. Back to our base for all of our equipment to gear up for another live update on WBTV News on Air Channel three at 60 'clock just about seven minutes from now. So if you're joining us here on Facebook, I will have another update for you on the air, Then we'll also be on the air again at 630, you'll get to hear from some people who live here about just exactly what that celebration was like What it. That they were so happy about and what it is. That is so devastating now the violence the chaos, the hectic scene. We're gonna take you there coming up at 60 'clock and 630 on WBTV News for now. I'm going to like I said, head back grab some water. It's been a long morning so far and we'll have those updates for you, but you can take a look at this live picture for the next bit on this active scene here on Beatty Sport Road in Charlotte.
