No. 6 in the Union... No. 1 in your hearts! Happy 232nd birthday, Ma...ssachusetts! On February 6, 1788, MA became the sixth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution by a vote of 187 to 168. In June, when New Hampshire came on board as the ninth state to ratify, adoption of the Constitution was guaranteed.
