- Peter Hwang — 4 starOnly cause Lisa is there she makes commute worth while...
- Dustin Barrall — 2 starWhen I first started listening to WNEW in the summer of 2012 I was impressed with the quality of reporting and traffic u...pdates, originally
on the 'ones'. I often switched back and forth between WTOP and WNEW to get traffic twice as often for my commutes, and found myself staying for the quick headlines that WNEW's format used. The broadcasts never were the cleanest as you could hear bad switches, incorrect sounders, or bad connection s to live reports about once every half hour. Once I moved to Baltimore in 2013 I started listening to WNEW almost exclusivel y as they expanded their broadcasts to cover Baltimore as well as DC and had a strong signal which I can pick up in the city. While not perfect WNEW was a great news station for the Baltimore metro area in 2013 and 2014. When the format changed in 2015 the quality of the news and traffic reporting was affected negatively . Another negative impact on the station was the station becoming the backup sports alternativ e to the fan. What changed things for me was the Baltimore riots. I was working out of town that day and had heard reports but didn't have all the informatio n I needed to travel back into the city. When I got close enough to the city to pick up the signal I immediatel y turned on WNEW to get the latest. Instead of getting the breaking news I needed on arguably Baltimore' s biggest and most dangerous disaster in the last decade, guess what I heard? A Nats game. The utter lapse in judgement and complete disregard for the public need for news, was shocking and quite frankly unbelievab le. After that I will never have any respect for the station or its staff, although I doubt they had much choice in the station's choice of programmin g. It really is sad because All News 99.1 really was a pretty great station and one I listened to every day. Newsradio 99.1 is just a bad knockoff of wcbs with no standards or obligation to its audience that I will never listen to regularly again. See More
