Another arrest. This man was trying to sell two pieces of elephant bones carved to look like ivory.
Dealing in any part or specimen of a listed species such as elephant is a serious wildlife offence under the new wildlife act.
It's been a long 36 hours for myself and two scouts.
Five people are now in police custody
1. Poacher with illegal firearm...
2. Two ladies found t have bought and were serving bush meat in local lodge
3. Business man lending a firearm to poachers
4. Dealer of listed specimen species.
We thank salima police who have partnered in these sting operations around both thuma and dedza forest reserve.
Gun poacher arrested by scouts on way into forest to hunt and kill wildlife for bushmeat trade. We have been watching and following him for just over a week. Our opportunity came when he jumped onto a motor bike with the rifle hidden in a yellow plastic bag heading towards the forest. We chased the bike in our vehicle and managed to apprehend him in day light. This suspect and the owner of the firearm were arrested before in 2015 trying to sell fake ivory but were released which allowed them to continue their killing. We hope for a good court hearing and are now going to get the firearm owner. One less poacher one less firearm around the forest and one irresponsible corrupt firearm owner .well done scouts
A Win for Elephants! At the moment when momentum to end the ivory crisis was rising, we’re pleased that the U.S. Administration reversed its short-sighted decis...ion to end the ban on elephant trophy imports. The REAL slaughter of elephants is caused by the global ivory trade #ConservationTrumpsCommerce

Huge big happy birthday to Reto from all of us in WAG. Reto works tirelessly behind the scenes, behind the camera helping to protect the forest and the wildlife. Your the best Reto. Have a great day.
Yesterday we were delighted to be able to carry out an emergency darting operation on one injured bull with a snare injury. Thanks to WERU and African Parks for stepping up to enable this to be carried out without a hitch. WAG scouts were delighted to be part of this and to get up close and personal with one of the bulls. I also overcame my fear and took part in the flying and ground support. The bull has recoved and is being watched over by scouts after his ordeal, and has been joined by another herd and was seen browsing like normal. Great job by all. And special thanks to Save the Elephants, Wildlife Conservation Network, Elephant Crisis Fund, AP and WERU. Photos reto , Lynn.
