JOLIET TOWNSHIP HOMICIDE UPDATE
On 01/21/2024, at approximately 4:27 PM, deputies with the Will County Sheriff's Office responded to the Pheasant Run Apartments located off Pheasant Run Road in Unincorporated Joliet Township regarding a shooting. While deputies were responding to the scene, they were advised that there was an male victim outside on the ground bleeding from the head from an apparent gunshot wound.
Upon deputies arriving on scene, they began to perform life saving measures on the male victim and began securing the crime scene. Members from the East Joliet Fire Department arrived on scene and took over life saving measures and transported the critically injured male to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) and detectives were summoned to the scene to begin to conduct the investigation into the death of this individual. The victim was later identified as a 28-year-old male originally from Nigeria, who has been living in the United States for approximately three years. The formal identification of the victim will come from the Will County Coroner’s Office upon conclusion of the autopsy and victim notification to the family.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office has been working with the Joliet Police Department regarding this shooting due to a similar incident that occurred in the City of Joliet approximately ten minutes prior to this shooting. The City of Joliet’s shooting occurred in the 200 Block of Davis Street. In that incident, a 42-year-old male was shot in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The victims in these two shootings are not connected to one another in any way. Both incidents appear to be random in nature.
As a matter of public safety, the Will County Sheriff’s Office is releasing information pertaining to the suspect vehicle. The vehicle has been identified as a red Toyota Camry with the license plate Q73 0412. This vehicle was observed at both crime scenes just prior to both shootings occurring. The Will County Sheriff’s Office and the Joliet Police Department are actively searching for this vehicle. Sheriff Kelley is urging the public to remain vigilant and safe while law enforcement continues to pursue all leads in locating this vehicle and potential suspects. If you see this vehicle, do not approach the vehicle, and immediately call 911 to report the vehicle’s location to law enforcement.
If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact Detective Anselmo Vallejo with the Will County Sheriff’s Office at 815-727-8574, at extension 4925 or go to the Will County Sheriff’s Office website at www.willcosheriff.org and click “Submit A Crime Tip”. Additional information will be provided when appropriate.
