This campground is wonderful. If you are looking for peace and quiet and camping as it should be, Wingates is your place. We spent a lot of time there in 2016 and early 2017. We got to know the owners..., Jane and Smokey. You won't meet nicer folks. If you are there on Holidays they often have dinners at the lodge for the campers. Though we hadn't been there for about 6 months, I called them when we needed a place to evacuate to during Irma. We weren't taking the camper because we would only be needing a place for the night. Jane and Smokey had opened the lodge for their camping guest and for others who needed a safer place to stay. They welcomed us with their usual friendly hospitality. We were among friends and had a comfy sofa to nap on. When the storm had passed we enjoyed delicious beef stew with everyone.,I asked Jane what we owed her for the night. "Not a thing",was her reply. " If you can't help neighbors and friends, what kind of person are you? she said.

We spent far too many months in our camper after we sold our home while we looked for our new home but when we are in the mood to go camping again, Wingates is where we will go. You won't find a better place to camp, rest, relax, fish, enjoy nature and make great friends. THANK YOU Jane and Smokey.

Log cabin was cool. No kitchen though, just a mini fridge and microwave. Two double size beds. Still had a really cool rustic look. Looks like they were tearing down some old buildings/trailers and re...modeling some houses. The staff was super nice. The little store had bait, ice, tackle and snacks. The restaurant is closed. They are looking for someone to lease it. We could pull the boat right up behind the cabin so that was cool. They are only open on weekends so the store was closed but they have someone on call thats close by if you need anything. Fishing was really good! Would be better with a kitchen in the cabin. We will defiantly come back. See More

We are here for a week, love our spot on the lake in the Red section. Full hookup with cable, Verizon working good for us. Love fishing on the piers around the marina. Less than a hour drive from Tallahassee.

It was a peaceful and the cabins were great. To me beat outvstaying in a five star motel. Simply because you can walk out of your door and it's quiet. Boat access was good as well.

There is no restaurant anymore. Place was going down hill for a while. But, things are looking up. We just stayed there May 20 through May 24, and can see work in progress. We have stayed here several... times for a few years . I hope they keep up the progress, as this is the most scenic of campgrounds on Seminole. On our last stay, the staff was most congenial and considerate. They were not in office when we arrived. We chose our spot, and didn't have to confirm or pay right away. But, I do recommend calling ahead of time. Some spots are favorites. I have two. And, right straight out in front of this place has the best fishing. See More

I have never been treated the way I was treated at this deplorable run down little place. Run the other way and never come to this place. We own property at Lake Seminole and were trying to help a fri...end out that was having boat motor trouble and had to use his trolling motor to limp in to the nearest boat ramp which unfortunately was wingates. An extremely rude woman ran out to us and rudely demanded $3.00. My husband explained to her he had no problem paying her the $3.00 just let him help his buddy load his boat that was disabled. She stormed off and a few seconds later a man blocked us in the ramp and got out of his truck and got in my husbands face within inches of his nose demanding the $3.00! My husband once again explained there was no problem paying the small little fee. My husbands buddy then handed the man $10.00 so he would leave us alone. They are psycho here!!!! When we were leaving he came out of the store and was screaming at us. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TREATED LIKE WE WERE TREATED TODAY!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUNCH OF CRAZIES. I told them that's exactly why this place isn't what it used to be. Absolutely pathetic!!!!!! My husband's grandaddy stayed with Mr. Jack Wingate in the 50's and 60's and never had a cross word with him or anyone there. Mr. Jack Wingate would be horrified if he ever knew that anyone was treated in this way at an establishment that still bears his name! Absolutely inexcusable!!!! See More

Lake Seminole might be the prettiest lake I've ever been on! Last time it was 39 degrees and cloudy...much better today! Besides the fact it feels like 107 degrees outside today in Bainbridge.

So excited to have our friend, Timmy Horton back with us!

Hunting Nation

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I too...k out my wallet, extracted ten dollars and asked,"If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?"

"No, I had to stop drinking years ago," the homeless man replied.

"Will you use it to go fishing instead of buying food?" I asked.

"No, I don't waste time fishing," the homeless man said.."I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."

"Will you spend this on hunting equipment?" I asked.

"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless man. "I haven't gone hunting in 20 years!"

"Well," I said, "I'm not going to give you money. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a shower and a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."

The homeless man was astounded. "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that?

I replied, "Don't worry about that. It's important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up drinking, fishing and hunting." 🤘

Y'all come! It's a great time with good food, good music and awesome vendors!

Our friend, Angelo "Andy" Koundourakis has been diagnosed with ALS. We are trying to help raise money for his increasing needs, one of which is a wheelchair-accessible van to take to doctor's appointments, etc. Randy and Patricia Ditto, also friends and owners of Sticky Fish, developed these awesome shirts to sell in order to help with this endeaver. Please consider helping in any way you can!

Awesome story!

This is the story behind the headlines: How an addicted angler and a few dedicated followers revolutionized the fishing industry.

This month we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ray Scott’s first bass tournament. Here are the behind-the-scenes details of the high-risk, high-reward efforts of the B.A.S.S. boss and the handful of anglers willing to bet on the future of competitive fishing.
