WATCH (London) At Home Event
I just want you to know what a very successful evening we had at St Stephen's Walbrook last night. Thank you to all those who came.It was so good to see you. Lots of conversations and links made with those we haven't met before as well as those who are old friends. The event was very well attended with a very good mix of clergy and laity. It was a real privilege as well as moving to be at Sally Muggeridge's first communion as a priest. I thank her... on behalf of all of us for the warmth, hospitality and welcome given by Jonathan Evens and Sally. What a lovely historical church to be in.
Thank you Martin Carr very much indeed for organising the refreshments and drink which helped to make the evening so good! Delicious - and nothing left which was the measure of how much people enjoyed it.
Also thanks to Hilary Cotton, National WATCH Chair, for coming and updating everyone on progress so far Nationally and Mary Johnston for doing the same regarding London. How good to welcome our new Archdeacon of Hackney, Liz Adekunle. and for her wise words. Interesting too that we had a representative from the newly formed WATCH in Wales, Peter Badcock, who wanted to get ideas for their branch. To be fair he was in London for another meeting and didn't travel deliberately for ours but it was good to see him! Good Luck WATCH Wales!
A write up of what was said at the meeting will be coming to share with those who were unable to come.
Women And The Church shared Canterbury Cathedral's album.
Another wonderful consescration in Canterbury Cathedral. Welcome, Bishops Jo and Jan.
Here are a couple of the official photos taken today at the Ordination and Consecration of the Bishop of Repton and the Bishop of Dorking. A lovely ceremony and even the weather behaved itself.
Women And The Church shared their post.
Division in Sheffield Diocese- shame!
It is sad to learn that in Sheffield, there will be two separate ordinations for deacons, one presided over by the Bishop of Beverley.

We pray that all those being ordained will have a joyful day and be blessed in their ministries, and are sure that everyone will be praying for the ministries and vocations of all – but it is very sad that a symbol of division has now crept into the ordinations of deacons as well as priests.

The killing of Jo Cox yesterday is truly shocking. The thought of two very young children who will never see their mother again is every mother's nightmare. The loss of an MP who went into politics to speak for those without a voice, to try to make the world a better place for her constituents. for us, for today's children, and for all women, is a loss for us all. Yet we also know that every day, women suffer from violence of different kinds and severities.
Earlier this week, the Bishop of Gloucester published a response to the equaly shocking massacre in Orlando. It is worth reading and praying through, in the light both of this massacre, of the death of Jo Cox and the death of so many nameless ones.

The end of June means tennis, cricket, football, rowing,...and (in a different league) ordinations! This year there is an added joy for us all, because at last, at these significant services, women will be part of them in all three orders of ministry, bringing a wholeness to the church’s ministry and witness. Congratulations and prayer for all those who are presently preparing for ordination in the next few weeks, and prayers too for the Bishops of Gloucester and Newcastl...e as they prepare to preside at the ordinations in their cathedrals.
There is also joy that last month, in Chichester cathedral, women and men were ordained together, as priests in the cathedral by one of their “own” bishops, and later this month, the Bishop of Chichester will ordain all the deacons in one service in the cathedral. ( The photo is from the ordination of priests in Chichester)
