My post is delayed until I can see. I took the patch from my eye and found out I have horrible double vision. I am thankful I took off tomorrow. Thanks for your prayers this week. They have been felt. Love to you all. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Last day in Philly until May. We fly out tomorrow to Texas. I sure hope we don't bring the cold weather with us. It has been blustery here. They are talking snow for tonight. I am really praying it waits until we get back to Texas or at last in the air above it. All that you talk to here are dreading the forecast of 20 inches of snow for the weekend. I would be too. With the wind blowing like it has the last two days, it won't be just snow; it will be a blizzard. Don't ...you wish a "blizzard" of the Holy Spirit would blow through America and lives would be changed. Although I don't think the Holy Spirit is at all cold, the blizzard like conditions would surely cover everyone. In today's world, a good dose of the Holy Spirit would sure be beneficial to all of us; change our lives and our direction. We would stop living in the flesh and start thinking of others for a change. The Word says "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." (Romans 8:12-17) Be blessed!
I just thought Texas was cold over the past weekend! Burr - It is really cold in Philadelphia. The wind is blowing across the Delaware, the temperature I'd 16 degrees and it feels like it is 3 degrees. So you see it's cold here! Thank God it is not snowing. When we got here yesterday, there was still a dusting on the ground but the roads are clear and there the sun was shining. Had to go to Target to get me some gloves and something to put over my head. Vanity went ...out the window girls! Guess it will stay there until I get back to Texas.
So much for the weather, the real reason of my post is to share the Word. As you know I am in Philadelphia for a purpose not for vacation. It is always dreadful to me when I come here. Not that I don't like the city, I do. But the procedure I go through is really painful. I, like everyone else, wonder why? Oh don't get me wrong, I do not distrust and I really don't question. Why not me? Am I exempt because of something special? Or because I am a child of God? No, not at all. I have to look at my situation as a mission. Jesus said "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." (Matthew 28:19-20). Now I trust enough to know He sent me here. Now to only find His purpose. Have a blessed day!
Well it's Monday! My weeks are running together. I worked on Saturday so all day long I was thinking I had an extra day. Don't know why I thought God would give me an extra day and not give it to anyone else. We are so like that though, aren't we? We think that everything is for ME! No one or nothing else matters. Well look around! None of us are the only person in the universe. (Now I am having a problem with whither to use is or are, but who cares? I decided None a...re! Ms. Chorley would be having a fit if she could read this. Lol.) Anyhow, I know there are others around that are much more important than I. And I also know if God does it for me, He will do it for anyone! The problem we have is we only trust when it benefits ME and then we trust at a distance (meaning we doubt)! No one else matters as long as I get! We steal, kill and or borrow to get what we want; Then we look around and wonder what we have done to deserve the mess we get ourselves in. DUH! Wake up! It's time we take responsibility for our actions. The Word says "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:7-10). Now what part of this teaching do we not understand? Have a blessed day!
It's SUNDAY, not FUNday! Now what do we do on SUNDAY? Make excuses! Okay let's try for one Sunday to not make excuses. Put our trust in the ONE that can be trusted. Let Him have His way. His way may not always be for fun. It cost! But look what it cost Him. Don't you think that we should pay a little? Oh I am not talking monetary. I am talking dedication. Like Job said in Job 2:10 "But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips." We need more Jobs! Be blessed.
"As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. Now therefore give me this mountain". (Joshua 14:11-12a) We quit because we can not do it! We stop because we are weak! We quit because of DOUBT! As I have have said before, we use any old excuse to quit serving God. We still have the same God as we had when He called us out of our bondage. Our true problem is we lose faith in who He is and what HE can do. We should be looking for mountain to claim; Mountains to cross; Mountains to tear down. Lord give me this mountain. With YOU we can cross. Amen! God is faithful to him who believes!
Another work week ending today! Mid January already! Goodness I've worked half of the month away already and have done absolutely nothing for myself. Do you ever feel this way? Always doing for others and never doing for self? Most mothers do you know! Most of us spend our lives doing for our kids, our kids kids, our kids kids kids, etc. Never a minute to spare for self. Wait! Isn't that what we are supposed to do? The Word of God says "Do nothing out of selfish amb...ition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Philippians 2:3-4) This command leaves no room for self. It points to taking care of other's needs before our needs. We get things backwards these days. I try to live with JOY! Jesus first! Others second! You last! What about you? Do you have JOY? Have a blessed day.
Well it's back to normal. The winning number has emerged and now we are waiting for the winner(s) to come forward. Are you a winner? I may not be a Powerball winner, but yes, I am a winner! I am allowed another morning. I am given air to breathe. I am in fairly good health. I can still see. You get the picture? When God gives us another day, we are winners. Winners in the game of life! What is that old saying? It's how you play the game! That's true in the game o...f life also. We strive to be the best we can be in everything we do. We try to be first, when it matters not if we are first, middle or last. I've known many people who were winners that no one outside of their families and a few close friends ever knew existed. And then I have known many who everyone knew that were losers. The only real thing that matters is how you live and where you end up after the game of life is over. Winners end up in Heaven; losers end up in Hell. Now you may not believe in Hell, but it is real! The Word of God says it was prepared for Satan and his angels. One day, when this life is over, we will end up in one of the two places; Heaven or Hell. Where will you be? The Word of God says "He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour." (John 12:25-26). Be blessed!
At 1:30 A.M. Hezekiah decided to go out the doggie door and start barking. I heard him when he went out the door but did not pay attention. Before long, he was running around barking and no one could ignore him. By the time I got to the door, he was back inside. So still don't know what the fuss was all about. It is so not like him to raise a fuss though; he is one of my "good" boys. With my active mind, I had a hard time going back to sleep. You know how it is! You l...ay in bed and your mind roams, nothing really productive, just roaming. All of a sudden the song Won't you Come Home Bill Bailey came to mind. You know the "Won't you come home, Bill Bailey, won't you come home I've moaned the whole night long I'll do the cookin', honey, I'll pay the rent I know I done you wrong You remember that rainy evenin' I threw you out with nothin' but a fine tooth comb Ya, I know I'm to blame, now ain't it a shame Bill Bailey, won't you please come home." Why that song? Who knows, that just how my mind works at 1:30 A.M. Only people with active minds understand such things. My thought is why on earth would anyone want someone to come home if they had to do all the work? Why would you want some one to come home if you had to support him? Why promise someone something just to get tired of it and throw him out again? Then you think of Jesus! He calls all of us to "Come Home, Come home, all Ye who are weary, come home". He paid it all! He does it all! All we have to do is "come home"! "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
Can you imagine what our lives would be like if Jesus quit on us? What if He had just quit when He was carrying His cross up to Calvary? He could have, you know! What if when He was being placed on the cross He said 'no way' and got rid of the ones that were trying to crucify Him? He could have done that too! What if He had called the ten thousand Angels to set Him free? I tell you where I would be! LOST! However, He did not quit on us, but we are fast to quit on Him a...ren't we? If something is not going the way we would like for it to go, we just quit. If it becomes work, then we quit. I can almost bet you that some of the things Jesus did was pure work! What about carrying the cross? It was not one of those smooth ones we see it pictures. It was a rough, rugged old tree put together in a form of a cross and He carried it. All the while, it was digging into His body! Don't you think that was work? Can you imagine His Father watching all the time, just waiting for Jesus to say "I can't do this; find some other way to save the people"! Don't you think that was work on God's part? I know if something is happening to one of our kids, I feel like I have worked a week in just a few hours. No Jesus was faithful to do what He was sent to do. He loves us and would never quit on us. Why should we quit on Him? "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." (John 9:4). Be blessed!
Good morning. Are you ready for MONDAY? Ever wonder why the first work day of the week is called Monday? As I have said before I have a very active mind and it is always coming up with something. According to the dictionary Monday is derived from the Old English word Mōnandæg and the Middle English Monenday, which means "moon day". Now what does that have to do with anything? Nothing. I was just curious and now I know. That is the way we learn. I wish people would be... a little more curious for the things of the Lord and would use the WORD to satisfy their curiosity. We would have a much better world in which to live, especially if they would live according to the WORD. The Word says "Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness." (2 Timothy 2:14-16). STUDY! Hummmmmm! Be blessed!
It's cold out today. Why don't you go to a nice warm church and warm up with the Holy Spirit? The Word of God says "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching". (Hebrews 10:25). The Church is a place of encouragement and a sanctuary for lonely, grieving, searching people. We, the church, are made of many parts, the head, the foot, the arms, the legs, etc. as explained in 1 Corinthians 12. It is actually for our own good that God want us in fellowship with other believers. We need each other to grow up in the faith, to learn to serve, to love one another, and to practice forgiveness. Though we are individuals, we still belong to one another. So, see you in church! Be blessed.
I am so like my Momma. The Pastor left for the church this morning to finish some work that is being done on the hallway between the Sunday School Department and the Sanctuary; I walked into the living room and immediately started thinking 'how can I move the furniture around to give it a different look'. When we were growing into adulthood, we had better watch when we started to sit down; Momma may have moved the couch! We are products of our growing up years. Stop to th...ink about it a few minutes. We really do tend to do just like our parents. I know some morning I look into the mirror and say 'hello Momma'. She is staring right back at me! Not a bad thing though. I always thought she was beautiful inside and out, and if I could be half as good as she, I would be okay. Momma was a very special, Godly lady and loved anyone and everyone. That's the way she taught us. I can just hear he say "if you can't something good about someone, don't say anything". That's a good lesson for all of us. The Word of God tells us "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." (James 1:19-25). Have a blessed day!
Prayers please for my sister. My nephew says she is a Alzheimer's patient and most of us know what a terrible disease that is. Not only does she need prayer but the caregivers also need it. So today my special prayer is for her and her family, may God reach down and touch her mind, soul and body and restore health to her. May He give the caregivers peace and understanding. The Word of God says "Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. ...Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit." (James 5:13-18). Thanks for your prayers and thanks for listening. Be blessed today.
This is one of those days I need to lift up my head and shout "IT'S GONNA BE A GREAT DAY"! Ever have one of those days that you have to will yourself to get going? The dogs woke me up AGAIN(!) before the alarm. I think they must still be on Daylight Savings Time. They are awake at 4:00 A.M. My usual getting up time is 5:00 A.M. Corky starts whining (this morning he barked), Phoebe starts barking, Matthew jumps off the bed and starts barking and Hezekiah just looks at th...em as if to say 'shut up'! Some times they are so human. Then again, sometimes we are just like dogs, aren't we? We chase after things and don't know what we will do with it when we get it. We tear up things, not even caring how much they cost. We are fickle; we will follow anything and anybody. We are lazy and just want to eat and sleep. We gripe and bark at anything and everything. We eat anything that falls in front of us not thinking of the consequences. See the picture? The Word of God says "Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ." (Ephesians 5:15-21). Have a great day!
