We can help! Next week, the 43rd Ward Democrats are holding a Gubernatorial Town Hall Meeting.... It is a free and open meeting where you will hear directly from the Democratic Illinois Gubernatorial and can ask them questions. Please spread the word to neighbors, friends and students in your network. You do not have to live in the 43rd Ward to attend! While the Town Hall is free, space is limited, and a RSVP is necessary. So please RSVP https://docs.google.com/…/1V-eCB-JHZFqLc-fmD9unD5ZWm3c…/edit
A huge thank you to everyone who lobbied hard to make this bill a reality, especially the chief sponsors of the bill State Senator Heather Steans and Sara Feigenholtz, State Representative! HB 40 is instrumental in protecting a woman’s right to choose. Women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights.
While today’s decision to end the DACA program by President Trump was both heartless and counterproductive, it is not at all surprising. President Trump is exactly who we thought he was. The question we must all answer now is who are we and where do we stand? The Young Democrats of Illinois stand firmly with the Dreamers.
Every day, hundreds of thousands of DREAMers make valuable contributions to communities all around this country. They represent the very best that this cou...ntry has to offer. America’s future is brighter because they are here. They are our nation’s soldiers, teachers, scientists, writers, and laborers. They are our friends, our co-workers, our neighbors, and our family members. Indeed, they are the embodiment of the American spirit that has driven our nation’s progress for generations. Today’s cruel and immoral decision can’t change that.
Every second that goes by without action being taken to reinstate this program is a moral failure by our nation’s leaders. That is why today we are calling for the swift passage of the bipartisan Dream Act of 2017. This legislation would provide permanent resident status and stability for the hundreds of the thousands of young people harmed by today’s decision. We will be pushing all of our legislators to join on and forcefully advocate for the immediate passage of this proposal. The lives of 800,000 young people hang in the balance.
What does this historic legislation mean for schools across Illinois? 📚📝✏️
