I stayed over at The Yosemite Bug Mountain Rustic Resort in Midpines, CA on my way to Yosemite. This place is awesome from the eclectic room furnishings to the ...friendly staff that obviously love their jobs. The cafe served us up a delicious dinner and provided a welcome atmosphere with live music from The Soul Galaxy band. Young and old were tearing it up on the dance floor while others played board games in the back room. What a cool place! I will definitely be back. I highly recommend The Bug for travelers and locals alike. See More

Reasonably priced, stayed in a private room with my dog. Beautiful 45 min ride to the Arch Rock entrance of Yosemite, much nicer ride than that of the south ent...rance. Being from NYC, I must say that the WiFi was horrible, no coffee until 7 am, at least 10 miles from a store, no TV, cashier touched my salad with her dirty hands BUT... the bed was very comfortable, the water was hot, the staff were helpful and polite and the environment cozy and secluded. Nice place to relax and get in touch with nature. I would visit again. See More

I've been staying here since 1998, very shortly after it was opened. Despite the growth it has undergone, this place has never ceased to be welcoming, comforta...ble, dynamic, and gorgeous! I recommend it over and over again, and rarely stay anywhere else for my visits to Yosemite! The staff is fun and friendly, the accommodations cater to a wide range of price points and comfort preferences, and the food is outstanding! Love, love this place! See More

Cool place and decent location, about a 40 minute drive from Yosemite Valley. Fantastic food at the cosy restaurant and a good place to have a beer after a long... day hiking. Communal kitchen could do with an upgrade (very old and limited appliances so gets pretty crowded around dinner time). Only thing we were dissaponted about is that after booking three people into a 4 bed dorm, one of us was made to sleep in a 12 person dorm. Overall a great experience. See More

A perfect place if you like woody and cozy atmosphere. The place is so peaceful. People are very kind and great cookers (organic, healthy, what else ?). The spa... is an amazing idea after a hard day of hiking. We didn't want to leave. It was a real pleasure to be there in our little tent cabin See More

It was the perfect stay for me and not to far from Yosemite, a nice drive. Cleanest of rooms, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and good food. A peaceful, laid... back environment. I slept so hard during my stay too, very comfy! Cannot wait to take my daughter here for a stay in the near future. See More

Super cute resort. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until almost 10:30 pm. Since it was after dark we went straight to our cabin and went to sleep. Super comfy beds and spacious room. Additionally, it was only about a 40 minute drive to Yosemite. Will definitely stay there again.

It was a beautiful place to stay - peaceful and welcoming. The food there is amazing! So many delicious choices! The only issue I had was that the air conditioning in our room (which we couldn't change) was set so cold! We had to wear jumpers and use all the extra blankets!

I've been going to The Bug annually for the last 5 years. I love this place. Very cozy, owned and operated by good people, and the vibe is truly very social.

Poor management. We placed wet/dirty clothes in a plastic trash bag and the next day, after a long day in Yosemite, we returned to find them thrown away by the... staff. There are no "do not disturb" signs available and we had no expectation of housekeeping in a hostel.

Upon learning about the mistake management did NOTHING to remedy the situation. Didn't offer a comp or discount at all. WE looked in dumpsters ourselves! Completely, and wholly unacceptable. The staff on site that night were nice enough, but unable or unwilling to think about how to best deal with the situation. The manager - Caroline - was unavailable the night it happened and when she arrived the next day was not helpful in the least. Then, went on social media and lied about our interaction. Completely unprofessional and dishonest.

Additionally, the kitchen is unsafe and filthy.

Stay anywhere else.

Beware. I've never written a negative review before and hope I don't have to in the future. Very disappointed with their cancellation policy and their refusal t...o make an exception even though we could not get there safely. Due to flood warnings we cancelled four days in advance. Even though they resold our rooms they refused to refund $189. When I requested waiving 1/2 of the cancellation fee they refused. They have the ability to make exceptions due to these extenuation circumstances but refused.
I don't appreciate a business that capitalizes after they more than made up for the cost when they resold the rooms. It's not good a business practice and it's lousy customer service.

It is our favorite place to eat and hang out! We celebrate a lot of birthdays and anniversaries there, have taken yoga classes from John Paul, and relaxed in the spa with wonderful massages!

If you like mountains. If you like outdoors. If you like sitting at a table inside air conditioning. And sleeping in a bed. Then this is the place for you.

Great location, amazing comfort food served in the cafe and the spa is just what you need after a long day exploring the NP.
I've been singing the praises about... this place to everyone back in Scotland.
I hope to return someday soon to spend more time in the area (as well as more of San Francisco). This place is perfection! I will definitely be staying here if I'm back

Thank you so much!

This time of year the Old Inspiration Point is a great venue for Valley Sunsets! Taking the old stagecoach road for some alone time is certainly worth it down to Bridalveil Falls.

From another: Old Inspiration Point is more remote and is located on the valley rim above the parking lot (accessible from Glacier Point road or continuing up from Inspiration Point).Tunnel view is a very nice lookout with amazing views of the park. It is often crowded but is worth it. There are a ...few hikes that branch off from the parking lot at tunnel view. I went to Inspiration Point. It is a short hike but very steep (2.6 miles round trip). My piece of advice is that you stop at New Inspiration Point rather than Old Inspiration Point. To find New Inspiration Point, you follow the path to the left when there is a slight fork in the pathway. You can see Half Dome and Yosemite Falls and the valley from the new point. You see the exact same view as you do from the parking lot, but the trail is hardly ventured, so you will be alone and able to get some good pictures. For Old Inspiration Point, you continue to the right when the path forks. This is not worth it because trees completely block any views of the valley.

Now that the rains are filling the falls here again, and Hetch Hetchy Valley's temperatures are warmer on a sunny winter afternoon than Yosemite Valley, I absolutely recommend this walk! Do it as a full day out or stop leaving Yosemite for a Half Day adventure, you will love this place.

Regardless of how you feel about the creation of Hetch Hetchy, it is hard to debate how beautiful it is currently with the reservoir and how even more beautiful I am sure it would be in its true state without the water. I got a chance to spend some time hiking there after the last …

If you like old undiscovered roads this is one of them. The old road from Sonora and SF ultimately, I like this trail simply because no one is on it. Just go as far as you want. You can also access it from Tamarack Flat up top ( the mountain biker in me would love that). Another great section of the Big Oak Flat Road is the Trail to Tuolumne Sequoia Grove. Just image old coaches and Model T's making their slow way to Yosemite Valley in another era.

Old Big Oak Flat road used to be the access road to the valley until it was deemed to be too unsafe and eventually destroyed by rockfall. Today it is an interesting hike (partially on the old pavement, partially scrambling and route finding over rock fall) with great views of the valley sights.
